Many animals in the wild live dangerous lives trying to survive, but these animals are able to run free and live their lives as they are supposed to. Animals in captivity are fed every day and given their basic life essentials, but do not get the exercise or family nourishment they need. There are pros and cons for animals in captivity. There are several downfalls for animals living in captive environments. Many animals, such as whales and elephants, depend on their family members for moral support and social needs. When an elephant dies or goes missing the other elephants mourn their death. In the wild, elephants have constant contact with their family, the lives of elephants in captivity is much different than an elephant in the wild. Captive breeding is a way to increase the population of species becoming extinct, people can capture animals, breed them, and them set them free later in life (Captive Breeding Program). Zoos and animal sanctuaries also bring animals into a safe place where they can not be hunted or poached (Occupy Theory). Keeping wildlife alive and safe should be a priority for every zoo. Many animals environments are also in danger due to deforestation or destruction of rainforests. Thousands of animals live in rainforests all over the world, and their habitats are slowly disappearing. Zoos give animals whose habitats are disappearing another chance to survive and continue to reproduce (World Wildlife). If it weren’t for zoos and wildlife sanctuary’s many of the world beloved animals, such as the giant panda, may not be around today (Empty the Cages and Tanks!
