Some medical assistants may find useful information and web sites on the internet in the medical office setting throughout the day. One of the pros for the internet is the medical assistant can send emails. Another pro is they can also order needed supplies for the office. There are also cons when using the internet, like spam emails. Some other cons are hackers, identity thieves, and
The physician assistants need to qualify through a general medical examination. They are not required to complete any residency. The examination they need to clear is known as PANCE. Whereas, the nurse practitioners have to qualify through a more specific examination related to some particular medical field, examples of such fields are geriatrics, paediatrics and so on. Physician assistants can prescribe medicines, but the nurse practitioners need to apply at the state level to obtain the permission for prescribing medications.
A physician assistant is a highly skilled healthcare professional
There is no doubt that working as a medical administrative assistant provides a diversity of job positions. Despite that fact, medical assistants often work in a doctor’s office or a hospital. In this essay, I will compare and contrast working in a doctor’s office between working in a hospital as a medical assistant. The main point I have prepared is, both job positions provide great learning opportunities, but differ in terms of work scheduling and work environment. Working as a medical administrative assistant in either a doctor’s office or a hospital shows a number of similarities.
The design behind a PA was to quickly fill the patient demand and provider needs in health care by operating as a team, not to create individualized clinicians. Overall, patients express more satisfaction with a PA- physician team because the clinician is more available to the patient. More research needs to be conducted on the physician assistant practice to see if the PA practice would be productive and able of an independent practice, and if so how many years of extra experience or training that would require. As of now, I do believe that the collaborative team of the two clinicians is a safe and effective method to our current healthcare demand. Ultimately, it is not about whether a PA can or cannot practice independent of a supervising physician, it is about the patient.
To investigate the role of a physician assistant, I have completed thorough research along with discussion with physician assistants at the Rhode Island and Miriam Hospital. From researching I have learned that they work under supervision and responsibility of an attending physician. However, they have several independent duties that are extremely important to healthcare. They are experts in general medicine and take an important position in diagnosing, treating, and prescribing medicine to patients. Physician assistants receive education and go through clinical rotations involving several different departments.
The position of physician assistant was established at Duke University while Nurse practitioner was established at The University of Colorado. Both career fields were designed to be extensions of physicians, with the ability to write prescriptions, evaluate patients, perform exams and treat medically. Each position was and is still licensed based on the state of their practice and certified as official medical professionals by the United States Federal Government. Both nurse practitioners and physician assistants were designed to function as a part of the healthcare team, and more specifically, nurse practitioners were intended to further aid in the concept and actualization of disease prevention. The current standard of qualification for physician assistants is completion of a graduate physician assistant program that includes roughly 2000 clinical hours spent in multiple medical disciplines.
The main difference of being a physician assistant versus being a doctor is that physician assistants are limited in certain areas of what they can do legally. Physician assistants must abide by state regulations when treating a patient and are not allowed to perform certain tasks without the presence of a doctor. But not only are they legally required to refer certain patients to doctors but they are ethically required to refer to a doctor when the time calls. They know their limits
It seems like most the time when entering our primary care physician’s office, it is not the doctor we get to see. Due to the physician shortages, most of the time, we mainly see the physician assistant. Physician assistants have all the qualifications for diagnosing illnesses and developing treatment plans. According to Smith-Barrow, Physicians Assistants can do many of the same things that a general practice physician can.
Thank you for taking the time to review my personal statement on why I have chosen to embark on the journey to become a Physician Assistant. My story started several years ago, more than I care to count, when I stumbled into the health care world as a paramedic in rural Pennsylvanian. While in high school, I became friends with several other students who were actively volunteering with a local fire department. After hearing their stories about the things they were learning and doing I also joined a volunteer fire department, mostly out of curiosity. Over the course of a couple of years I discovered that the challenges that I encountered during training and responding to emergencies had unlocked some unrealized, more like unknown, drive inside
The profession I have chosen to pursue is that of a Physician Assistant. My reason for this selection is because it gives you the independency of a Physician while having somewhat less responsibilities. A Physician Assistant provides healthcare services typically performed by a physician, under the supervision of a physician. Some of these services include but are not limited to examining and treating patients, diagnosing illnesses and counseling patients. In some case physician assistants are also tasked to prescribe medicine to patients.

In addition to these requirements is the Graduate Record Exam. PA programs require the same prerequisite courses as medical students. This includes introductory biology and chemistry, microbiology, cell biology, genetics, anatomy and physiology, organic chemistry, and calculus. Competitive GPAs are around a 3.5. Most PA programs are 26 months, roughly 3 years and once in the school they obtain 2000 hours of clinical rotations in internal and family medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics, general surgery, emergency medicine and psychiatry.
