Good afternoon. I am here to help fight for the cause to save your lives. Imagine this; you are taking a test in one of your classes. Then you hear a gunshot and the entire school goes into lockdown. Your friend, or sibling gets shot, while in the hallway, but for your own safety, you can’t leave your hiding spot.
The article “Assault Weapons” supports this claim, “Assault weapons and high-capacity magazines have repeatedly been used to commit some of the worst mass shootings in modern U.S. history, and they contribute to the daily toll of gun violence in communities around the country” (“Assault Weapons”). Assault weapons allow for mass shooters to kill many more people at a faster rate than if they had a different weapon, an assault weapon ban could stop this. Assault weapons are also one of the most common choices for mass shooters and criminals in general. An assault weapon ban could only help America. This is wrong as assault weapons aren’t the most used weapons in mass shootings, for example, "The majority of mass shooters use handguns, and the overwhelming majority of school shooters do not legally purchase their weapons but instead took them from family members" ("Gun Control").
The regulations of guns in the USA has been a hot topic in the GOP debates this election year. Gun Control seems always to come up in conversation when it is time to elect our next president or when a tragic event involving guns occurs. Regulations of guns in the USA has been around since the early 1900s, and is ever changing to this day. There are both Pros and Cons to Gun control laws. Also many factors on why there are different laws on guns in different parts of the country.
Gun Control: Assault Weapons Should be Banned in America In the past decade there have been many mass shootings which sparked a nationwide debate on the ban on assault weapons. Assault weapons are Semiautomatic weapons that are usually used in the military due to their advanced features. The difference between a Semiautomatic weapon and a regular pistol is that semiautomatic guns reload automatically and can fire consistently (Assault Weapons). Majority of Americans argue that Assault Weapons should be banned nationwide because of the amount of mass shootings caused by Assault weapons.
Gangsters might be gone ,but criminals are still around and they use assault weapons for their preference of mass murdering. Assault weapons should be banned. Assault weapons are far more dangerous than other guns. They shoot nearly a thousand bullets in a few seconds. This makes them more deadly than several handguns or other firearms that are not automatic.
There’s no point in banning all sorts of guns at this point in time and everyone should know how to use this “self-defence” weapon efficiently. You can place a gun, a knife or a bat all side by side, none of them are going to do anything until someone picks them up to use them! The tragic shooting at Newtown reminded us not only of the need for gun control but also mental health support. From the day each individual graduates from this seven-day training period, every child will be required to carry assault rifles at all times of the day, whether it be in school, at the mall, or at home, in order to ensure the best protection. However, I am not an unreasonable person.
More gun laws will lead to more gun crime rates. As the famous saying goes, “If guns are outlawed; only outlaws will have guns.” The United States has about 88.8 guns per 100 people, which is about 270,000,000 total. This is the highest per capita and total number in the world (ProCon “Background of the Issue” 1). Guns were very common and dated back to Colonial America.
But what should be done about assault weapons? There should be no reason for homeowners and everyday citizens to own such things as an AR-15 or a Machine Gun. Assault weapons should not be permitted in the US. The majority of assault weapons that are used for these shootings are acquired legally by shooters. In some of the most recent major attacks, “killers in Las Vegas and Orlando attacks… walk into gun shops and legally purchase assault weapons” (Ingraham).
Multiple people live in certain environments where they need these types of weapons to protect them. By banning assault weapons this might ruin their entire life. On the “New York Post”, they state banning of assault weapons is nothing but a symbolism and will not be a difference. The article states this because even if assault weapons were to ban, there will still be handguns and all types of firearms out there. Americans who had an assault weapon before, will still continue to have it.
‘In the late 1980s, gun control groups realized that they had failed in their original goal—getting handguns banned—and began campaigning against semi-automatic firearms they called "assault weapons," most of which are rifles’(“A ban on assault weapons would not reduce crime”). From 1994 to 2004, the Federal Assault Weapons (F.D.A) banned semi automatic weapons from having more than 10 rounds. The easiest way to define gun control is by saying it a government regulation sale of any type of handgun, or assault rifle. It’s just a certain style the government sales firearms, if you have a criminal background or criminal history you are not allowed to purchase a firearm due to gun control. I personally think gun control doesn’t cause any harm to today’s society, considering the fact that i’m constantly around guns and I have no violent urge to put anyone in danger.
Most people know that you cannot buy a handgun at age 21 from a licensed dealer, you can buy a handgun from anyone who is a nonprofessional dealer, like a gun show an etc. I'm going to cover why banning “assault rifle” is not going to help with anything. With all of these shootings, CNN is pointing out one gun, the AR-15. If we are going to ban the most used gun that is used for school shooting we would be banning handguns. Between 1982 and 2018 only 35
Assault weapons are dangerous to let citizens own them. Despite the danger, the government should not ban assault weapons. The danger isn’t the weapon, it’s the person wielding it. Some assault rifles hold 6 times the amount of pistols. Most pistols hold around 15-16 rounds, but an AR can hold around 30-100.
The term “assault rifle” was believed to be coined by the one and only notorious Adolf Hitler. Towards the end of World War II, he is believed to have invented the name based on the German word Sturmgewehr, which means “storm” or “assault.” Before machine guns were invented, soldiers stood in rows and shot at their enemy in synchronized rows. This method of fighting was deemed ineffective because of their range, speed, and accuracy. Because of this, inventors started to create different versions of these weapons, making alterations to the gun’s ammunition supply, loading style, and bullet type.
Some however believe we as citizens of the United States should be able to own these assault weapons. To that i say there is no argument no citizen should be able to own a weapon of that magnitude. Rifles such as the AR-15 which shoots a 5.56 mm round which is the same as what the military uses. These guns are made to kill as quickly and efficiently as possible not to hunt or home defence they are made to kill. For 500 to $1200 you can purchase this weapon at the age of 18 years old that is insane to think
This makes us wonder why people can be so defensive over something like a gun that is so dangerous and has lead to a lot of deaths in the American society. Gun control is essential in our society today because it will help prevent unnecessary shootings and crime rate Gun control will play a major part in the decrease of the crime and murder rate. Therefore, in my point of view, guns should be totally controlled and regulated by the government. If gun ownership is controlled by the government, only a limited number of people will be allowed to own guns. In addition, the regulations will make it difficult for people to access guns unless they have a concrete reason as to why they need the weapon.
