There are more than 500,000 homeless people in America (Johnson). There are many reasons and causes for people to end up living this way, but the biggest cause is tragic life events, for like loss of loved ones, job loss, domestic violence, divorce, and family disputes. Other reasons for homelessness are depression, untreated mental illness, PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), and physical disabilities ("Top Causes of Homelessness in America."). Many people see homelessness as a bad thing and an issue, but it does serve a purpose in society. Homelessness can be seen in many different ways.
Homelessness is usually a result of several of complicated issues. First, domestic and family violence is considered to be the most common reason why people become homeless. Domestic and family violence is that one person uses abuse and/or violence to control his/her spouse or other family members through fear (Domestic Violence Prevention Centre, 2016). Therefore, victims prefer to stay outside all day in order to avoid being at home which is considered as nightmare. Second, financial difficulty is another major cause for homelessness.
Apathy. Although there are circumstances that cause people to be homeless such as the loss of a job or addiction, the main reason is that citizens feel apathetic towards the homeless. Seeing homeless people on the streets has become so common that people are not impacted by the hardships a homeless person is clearly facing. Beggars have become invisible and it is nearly impossible for the homeless to regain a life of normalcy without the help of others. It is typically taught that when you see a homeless person you should ignore them, walk away, or lock your doors if you are in a car.

Imagine yourself on a busy footpath begging for someone to help you, but everyone passing by is saying “sorry I don't have any change”. According to Homelessness Australia, this is the life of roughly 122,000 people in Australia. The dwindling amount of affordable housing is creating even more homeless people, and as a community we must help prevent it. I have seen people sleeping on benches instead of beds and wearing torn and dirty clothes instead of being clean and undamaged. Most of us just ignore them or act like those who are stereotyped as addicts, and forced into begging for money aren’t there, because we think that will solve the problem of homelessness and that will make them disappear, but it doesn’t.

The current government is creating a situation where more families along with their children are experiencing homelessness. An individual may be considered homeless when they lack permanent housing and have to stay in shelters, abandoned buildings or vehicles, on the streets, or in other forms of unstable situations. Many homeless people start out with jobs and stable residences, but then social and economic factors intervene, causing a rapid change in their living situation causing them to leave, and live on the street. Causes of Homelessness in America Homelessness in America is a serious problem and is on the rise. When a person is homeless it means they do not have a permanent home. It is estimated that 2.5 - 3.5 million Americans are homeless, most being men and children, and this number is growing (Homelessness in America, 2015). The main causes of homelessness are domestic violence, insufficient income and lack of housing. However there are many more reasons such as mental illness and substance abuse.
The issue of homelessness in America has been evident since the early 1600’s. Across the country men, women and children spend their nights on the streets not knowing when or if they will ever find a permanent home. States and federal officials or city councils have tried to alleviate or at least reduce the number of homeless over the last several decades at a city, state or national level but it continues to be an ongoing problem. There is a multitude of factors that account for the growing homeless population that affects each state in the country differently. Have you ever seen people sitting on benches sapped in blankets, not a crumb to eat and no home to go to after a long day. Homelessness is a big concern everywhere in the world, especially in our community. This, I think we should have more consideration for them. Just because they are homeless doesn't mean they aren't human.
People that are homeless or become homeless today, experience so much they are not sure what to do because they think they do not have help from anyone or somewhere to sleep. Adults are not the only people that become homeless, teenagers become homeless as well because before they turn 18 some will run away from home at least one time. While these people are sitting on the street, they experience numerous things such as abuse from other people, drugs, unemployment or not able to find a job, etc. Everyday when people drive or walk by someone thats is homeless, glancing at their sign reading what it says to make them feel sad for them. However, by doing something small for them makes an impact in someone else’s eyes.
People should not just give the homeless the silent treatment and keep on walking like nothing is wrong. In order for the homeless problem to stop, we “the people” must make it end by helping the less fortunate get to shelters or to some other source of help. The major problems of homelessness
