We dislike the way car dealers squeeze us for every penny, then after we agree on a price, they bring up all kinds of add-ons, warranties, under coating, top coating, road side assistance, and security systems, and so forth. Oh, and lets not forget the fees! Needless to say, we own a 1999 Dodge Ram with 170,000 miles and a 2002 Ford Taurus with 207,000. We also researched the pros and cons of buying a used car at an auto auction. Additionally, we picked up the recent Consumer Reports special edition on new and used cars. We quickly decided since we had no experience or industry knowledge of auto auctions, we would not go to an auction and bid on our next family car. However, we read an ad in an association magazine in Las Vegas for Mike’s Auto Shack. We looked them up and found that Mike buys cars at auctions for customers for a small fee plus the auction price. I am a numbers kind of guy, so financially, it looked like something to consider. The prospect of buying a car sight unseen bothered us some as we had concerns we would get scammed or pick up something that was trashed inside.
