Writers and critics have long argued that Black History should be celebrated and taught year-round. Although, there are pros and cons to celebrating only for one month, there are also different standpoints and views. Started in 1926, by Carter G. Woodson, Black History Month was initially Negro History Month. While absolutely worthy of the celebration the story of African American contributions have become repetitive over the years. There are many pros and cons of celebrating black history for one month a year. Celebrating black history during one month promotes cultural awareness although it helps to reinforce a feeling of inferiority and highlights the accomplishments of black people.
