Pros And Cons Of Crossing A Single-Lane Bridge

This game could be regarded as a game of contention of the same space. Let's look at an example of two cars crossing a single-lane bridge. If both cars get to the bridge at the same time once in the bridge they can't bypass each other without one swerving away to avoid a head-on collision. The best course for each driver is to get to the bridge first and cross before the other gets to the bridge, but that again it is impossible as the assumption stated above says both cars get to the bridge at the same time. As such, only one option left for both drivers are swerving away or getting into a head-on collision just as the chicken game described in the assignment. That said, the drivers might or can change the situation because of their varying …show more content…

If deciding not to swerve away i.e. win earns a 1 to the driver. Then swerving away i.e. losing, earns the driver a -1 and finally tying i.e. getting into a head-on collision earns the driver a -10. That said, the drivers might decide to plan ahead as in strategizing. There could be the possibility that either driver decides not to be rational i.e. not to be reasonable with the hope that the other would be and would decide to swerve away. According to Wikipedia, (2018), it is reported that "this unstable situation can be formalized by saying there is more than one Nash equilibrium, which is a pair of strategies for which neither player gains by changing his own strategy while the other stays the same". In light of this, the drivers of either car assume to know the equilibrium strategy of the other driver meanwhile in the event that they both decide to change their strategy, there is no certainty that either would arrive at a win/win situation. So in effect, the drivers are taking their best shot at deciding whether to swerve or not while taken the decision of the other into account noting that neither's decision remains
