TO DAY CARE OR NOT TO DAY CARE? The type of research that was conducted was a combination of different types of studies. It was a case study, survey, and observation. Tiffany Field's research is based on how high quality day care centers gives a positive development on children that will be evident as the child matures. Fields start off with a early study that was done in 1988 with a few other researchers known as Masai, Goldstein, Perry and Parl. These researchers studied infants and children who began day care at 6 months of age, the ones who began as infants, but after 6 months of age. The first study had the same children that participated in full time infant child care study that happened in 1988. During this study, a high quality day care was divided into an infant nursery and a toddler nursery. Each nursery had their own activities. The point was to observe the way that each child from each group reacts to different items in the room. Not only where there naturalistic observations but there were questionnaire packets sent out to the parents of day care centers so that they where able to gather more data on parental perceptions. The questionnaire consisted of demographics, behavior rating scale, internal and external scale and parental ratings of children. These children where assessed by researchers by doing three activities known as Piers-Harris children self conduct scale, child self portraits, and internal and external scale. With all the data from these activities .researchers were able to collect valuable information that led to successful
