Why Embryonic Stem Cells Should be Researched
Imagine, 20 or 30 years from now the medical field being radically changed. Cancer patients being cured, paralyzed victims of a car crash being able to walk and move again Even a smoker’s lungs being healed back to normal. This could all be possible with further research regarding Embryonic Stem Cells Even though one has to destroy a fertilized embryo, and some believe this is equivalent to killing a human, Embryonic Stem Cells should be used because we can make a nearly infinite supply of them and could possibly cure diseases and regrow body parts.
The only real downside to ES cells are the fact that a fertilized embryo has to be destroyed to create the Stem cells. “Some believe that there is no exact point in time where the beginning of personhood can be pinpointed in the lifetime of the embryo, because of this they believe that from the moment of fertilization the embryo should be regarded as a person” (8 Pros and Cons of ES Cell Research). With the belief that these fertilized embryos are considered human, any attempt to destroy it should be considered murder. Therefore, ES cells should not be used for research, because of the means as to which they are achieved.

Since these cells have been taken from inside of the embryo they have lost their ability to receive a signal for when they have made enough copies of themselves, causing them to duplicate continuously. For this same reason these new cells have not been told what cells to become, meaning that we can program them to become a whatever we want, like a skin cell, heart cell, lung cell, etc(Embryonic Stem Cell). If then put into a destroyed part of the human body, these cells can duplicate themselves and heal that area, even regrow it; like how the liver can heal and regenerate
