Beginning as science fiction the act of designing your baby is nearly a reality. This possibility will not only have a major impact on the millennial generation, but could potentially affect generations to come. With major increases in technology and scientific studies, we are now able to alter genes. The original reason these studies were made, was to prevent genetic diseases and disorders; then its ability to pick out gender, hair color, eyes, height and potentially personality traits was discovered. As of 2015, Chinese scientist have successfully altered DNA to replace a blood disorder with a standard piece. Accomplishments such as this is a positive way that genetic modification can be used for the betterment of humanity. Although I think there are too many unknowns, that if not medically necessary, then it shouldn’t be used. The wealthy will have the upper hand, and the middle-class and lower will remain lower, because the wealthy will always have ability to improve and “create” better kids. Whereas working hard for something will eventually not be enough. For sports the genetically modified will be the measurements of a perfect athlete. Meaning the kids you hear about spending hours on the court trying to improve their lives and make something of their selves will rarely outwork the genetically modified kids. The ones who spend hours studying may never be able to out-study the kids whose parents choose them to be intelligent. Our society will turn into survival of the richest. This will only increase the separation of the classes and eventually no one will be able to improve and work for a better life for their future families.
