Helicopter parents are parents that are always involved in their children’s lives, and do too much for them that they can do for themselves. They are called “helicopter parents” because they tend to hover and keep watch of everything or at least stay close by. Some people feel that helicopter parenting helps ensure the safety of their child, while others believe children need to live their lives more independently. Helicopter parents need to let their children make their own decisions and live independently because children are being forced into extracurriculars they are uninterested in, kids are unable to make their own decisions, and parents won’t always be around for their children.
To begin with, helicopter parenting does not let children get into extracurriculars or activities they are interested in. Helicopter parents need to let their kids decide what they want to do.

‘Free range parenting’ can lead kids into not making the best choices and some people think that they live too independently. Free range parents are parents that raise their kids to live freely but not make them do something they can’t do. This parenting style can also prevent children from being abducted and murdered (The Pros and Cons of Helicopter Parenting).
Although the chances of getting abducted and murdered are higher with free range parents, in general it is not likely that the child will be in much danger. More than ¾ of child abductions are caused by family members or friends of the child (Radford). The strangers that kidnapped the the children did not tend to do much harm (Radford). This shows that when children are hurt, it is more likely that they would have been kidnapped by someone they know rather than a stranger. Later in life the family member or friend who abducted or even killed the child will definitely regret doing so and face many
