Everyone has an opinion about weather weed should be legal or not. Some say it is bad for you and is dangerous; but if you compare it to any other drug, marijuana isn't bad. There are many medical benefits. Marijuana also doesn't cause brain damage, genetic damage, or damage to the immune system (legalization 29). Legalizing marijuana has changed a lot of people's view on the drug. Over twenty six states have legalized marijuana for medical use (state marijuana 1). There are many good uses for it such as Crohn's disease, Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), chemotherapy pain, and many more (NYLN 5-6). Also the government has been looking for new ways to make money to improve roads and parks (pros 2). A boost in revenue would help companies make money for the product being sold and for the service. Since there are companies that sell marijuana from dispensaries you wouldn't have to go and buy marijuana from a guy off the street which helps lower the money that gangs receive which also lowers drug deals. Legalizing marijuana will decreases the amount of illegal drug deals and might even prevent shootings on the streets (pros 4). Some of the safety controls would be that you wouldn't have to worry if there are dangerous drugs being mixed with the marijuana you buy, when you buy marijuana legally from dispensaries (pros 5). Having more states legalize marijuana police will be able to cut down on drug deals in large cities.
