A person should vote because they believe it is their duty as a citizen and because they belief in the process. Many people point out that elders tend to vote more often but I respectfully point out that older people have a habit of dying off at a fairly regular basis. Disenfranchisement with the establishment can be a life long mindset, indeed it may be that the system of government is creating groups of people who believe that voting is a waste of time, an idea that may be planted at a younger age. Once upon a time you had to be older than 18 to vote, many debates were held over the pros and cons but eventually the age restriction was lowered and it has had little ill effect on our society. I believe that lowering it further, to an age where many teenagers are considering their future and how best to prepare for it would have a dual benefit of forcing American youths to focus on planning their lives and building rapport with our system of
The timing of legislations introduced regarding abortion influenced the lobbying methods, the resources and the alliance-building capacity of pro-abortion campaigners. In the UK, campaigns for the liberalization of law on abortion began in the 1930s, with legislation being passed in 1967. Thus, in Britain, the first-wave liberal feminists campaigned for abortion, who were mostly middle-class. Feminists in the 1960s emphasized the sisterhood between women and a shared oppression by men (and society), whereas second-wave feminism was more radical in its ideology and emphasized social divisions between women. The latter shaped the birth control debates of the 70s and 80s, and the differing opinions prevented the feminist groups from presenting
There has always been the conflict over whether or not the legal drinking age should be changed. Some people protest that by lowering the drinking age younger people know what to expect about the effects of alcohol when they get older. Others believe drinking at a young age can lead to addiction and alcoholism, liver failure, and other serious problems thus increasing death rates and alcoholics. There are more serious negative outcomes that happen with teen drinking such as drunk driving and unintentional terrible decision making. ( Con 2016)
The article, "16-Year-Olds Want a Vote. Fifty Years Ago, So Did 18-Year-Olds", talks about the pros and cons of why 16-year-olds should or shouldn't vote. I believe that the voting age in the United States should not be lowered to 16, because they are not mature enough, and their argument is not as strong as the one in the 60's. 16-year-olds should not be allowed to vote because most are not mature. Representative Mark E. Green said, " We don’t allow a 16-year-old to buy a beer, and the decision making is because of their ability to reason at that age,”.
The twenty-sixth amendment was the amendment that lowered the legal voting age from 21 to 18. This was a huge step for American people and the country to allow more people to vote and voice opinion. In this day of age many people have strong opinions and feeling towards how the country should be run. Unfortunately some of the people that complain and have opinions about politics did not vote for politicians to represent them. All citizens have not always had the right to vote and people that refuse to vote now-a-days do not have the right to complain about what decisions politicians make.
The controversy about the drinking age has been a well argued topic for many years. This argument first started in 1971 when the drinking age was lowered to eighteen in the United States. When death tolls began to rise significantly, many states reverted back to the old drinking age. Shortly after, in 1984, national law made the legal age for alcohol consumption twenty-one again (“Minimum Drinking”). Many people agreed with the reversion of the drinking age, yet there were some who did not.
The minimum voting age should be lowered to 16 The decisions of political leaders affect the lives of numerous young people in today’s society, including the bulk of high schoolers in America. The right to vote is a considerable privilege and should not be limited do to the opinions of older people thinking the youth of this generation is not mature enough to make a responsible decision that contributes to this country. Voting should not be restricted to the age of 18 and above. Studies show that laws are passed to alleviate the everyday lives of ALL Americans, not just the adults; therefore the voting age minimum should be lowered to 16.
For a long time, there have been debates about lowering the drinking age in the United States from 21 to 18. Some argue that if a person can enlist in the armed forces or vote in elections, they should be allowed the right to drink alcohol. Others feel that it is far too dangerous to lower the drinking age and the outcomes would be disastrous. There are many arguments presented for both sides of this topic. Despite the arguments for lowering the drinking age, there is a lot of research that proves it would be a negative action.
To Lower or to Increase the voting age in America is a question of growth development and dedication to ones country. To continued with the voting age of 18 and up is correct for the United States. Our children have a different standard of understanding government laws and voting, to make change in their communities and country. Although there are many rising stars that are 16 that could vote, they will use that vote very wisely and represent the countries needs.
Logically, lowering the voting age would result in at least a slight increase in voter turnout, simply because a wider amount of people would be able to vote. But it might not be as big of a change as some would expect or want. As seen throughout history, just because people are able to vote does not mean that they will vote. Through the course of several elections, the percentage of voters under 30 has fluctuated, ranging from 39% in 2016 to 50% in 2020 (Tufts, 2021). These fluctuations are caused by many factors, such as the competitiveness of the election, the level of the election, and the political views of the candidates (Frame, 2022).
Most 16 year old kids dont know much about or learn much about the presidental election to be able to vote. I feel the voting age 18 is a little risky itself and going lower is just unprofessional. Judges are comparing our country to diffrent countries like our rules and presidents are the same. My arguement is to keep the voting age at 18 years old.
One cannot put the stress of having to choose a president who will lead the country for the next four years on a 16 year old who is having a mental breakdown because there crush wont text them back. Lowering the voting age would only decrease the voting percentage in the in the young voters. We should be more focused on how to make voting easier and more flexible for everybody, like the passage said we need to make voting mobile ,secure but also easier ways on how people can vote from there comfort at home. Even thinking of lowering the voting age is just asking for less votes or even worst votes from teenagers who are still dependent from their parents ,and there opinions .America will continue to grow and have new presidents wwe just need to make the right decisions and keep the voting age at
The age of electoral majority should be lowered to sixteen because voting is a fundamental human right for a democratic society, and future belong to the young generation, they should take part in making any decision that may cause a change in their life. If teenagers are allowed to vote, they will care more and know more about politics, which may eventually benefit the whole society by improving the quality of life of every person living in that
The voting age should be lowered to 16 because youth will vote thoroughly, 16 is a better age to start voting, and voting will provide an intrinsic benefit to the lives of young people. Firstly, it is best for us to lower the voting age because young adults will vote thoroughly and make the right decisions. Alternet says that young voters are likely to vote in much the same way as their parents, not because they are coerced to do so but because or shared values meaning that there will be no worries that irresponsible teenagers will make wrong choices.
