Power plants burn fuel to produce heat to generate energy; however, nuclear power plants use the heat given off fission to turn water into steam. Nuclear energy is without a doubt a great way to power our homes because, Nuclear power plants are safer than other energy alternatives. Nuclear plants are safer than other energy alternatives. Coal is responsible for five times more deaths than nuclear power plants, coal also causes over one thousands more serious causes of illness than nuclear. Nuclear plants produce steam while coal plants, heat water by burning coal that produces greenhouse emissions.
In “Nuclear Power is Not the Answer,” Helen Caldicott argues that pursuing nuclear energy would be a detriment to the United States. According to Caldicott, nuclear power, contrary to what the industry claims, is not clean and green, but rather a pollutant and a strong contributor to the destruction of the ozone layer. Because of the availability of uranium ore steadily decreasing, the process is requiring more and more fossil fuels to extract the ore. Caldicott projects that within ten to twenty years, nuclear reactors will be counterproductive because of the amount of fossil fuel it will take to mine the remaining uranium. Prior to the Reconstruction Era, the Union and the Confederate states had just engaged in a war concerning slavery and the unity of the United States, which is also known as the Civil War. The damage from the war was economically, socially and politically devastating to the United States of America as a whole. The newly liberated African Americans were harassed, tormented and even killed in the communities they had developed after the Civil War. Literacy tests were implemented as a way to prevented the miseducated African American male from suffrage. Lastly, early Jim Crow laws originated during this time period.

Over 20 percent of the energy in the United States comes from nuclear energy power plants. (Rinkesh, 2018) They so their best to get as much energy to the country as possible, but there are those out there who don’t agree with them. While there are downsides to nuclear energy, the pros vastly outweigh the cons. There are 16 reactors in the UK spread over 9 sites and there are three types of reactor; Magnox, Advanced Gas Reactor (AGR) and Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR). There is 1 Magnox reactor, 7 AGR reactors and 1 PWR reactor.
Despite the negative publicity of incidents such as the reactor meltdown at Three Mile Island and the Chernobyl disaster, nuclear power remains a viable source of energy. Nuclear power produces large amounts of energy without damaging the environment with large amounts of carbon dioxide. In addition, nuclear power is more economical than traditional energy sources. Not only does it cost less to produce, it benefits the economy by creating new employment positions. Finally, nuclear energy results in fewer deaths each year than traditional fossil fuel sources.
Another man named James H. Rust who published a book called “Nuclear Power Safety” also agrees with Tucker that nuclear power should be on the fore front of science in todays society and not over looked because of all the safety concerns. Rust gives an honest opinion on what he wants the readers to get from the book and that is, “Given the fact that a reactor is not a bomb, and I hope the other chapters in this book will have at least convinced the readers of that one fact, there is still the possibility of escape of radioactive materials, both during normal operation and in case of accidents” (Rust, 36). The waste produced by the power plant has the ability to seek into the main water supply and the soil, evidently making the sources radioactive. Threats have also presented itself of possible attacks on a nuclear power plant. The dangerous and lethal effects that if a nuclear power plant were to have a meltdown are extreme. The radioactive material has the ability to travel and expand further than a uranium nuclear blast. The death toll will increase as radiation will travel for miles and miles reaching places that are not in near of the power plant.

We're running out of fossil fuels. So we we’re trying to find new ways to make energy without burning nonrenewable fossil fuels. So they've came up with nuclear power plants, which doesn't use nonrenewable fossil fuels. But there are always pros and cons to everything and everyone has different thoughts on if we should build them or not. Some countries already have nuclear power plants but, I think we shouldn't build them in United State for a lot of reasons but there are also some good reasons to build nuclear power plants.
Rough Draft Nuclear Power “The United States gets twenty percent of its power from nuclear power and we are left wondering, “Should we use more of it?” There are 75,000 hydro-electric dams and about 70 nuclear power plants located in the United States and they only produce about a third of what hydro-electric has. Although its high in producing power it has its downsides, one is the waste it gives off is very deadly, and two they are susceptible to meltdowns. Another downside is that they need a lake to operate. With nuclear power plants producing so much power the united states is/ rethinking discontinuing construction of power plants.
