The problem with the world today is significant overcrowding, specifically in the United States. All across the country, people are crowded together in small cities, while jails and prisons are huge buildings with plenty of space just waiting to be filled with criminals. With the annual national growth rate at .7 percent presently, soon there will be even less space for people to live and thrive as population increases. Already, Americans are crowded into tight spaces with barely enough room to breathe as 80.7 percent of the population lives in urban areas. Antarctica, however, is 1.5 times the size of the United States and completely available for use. By sending criminals to Antarctica, instead of to prisons within urban areas or countrysides with people residing in them, it will free up more space in the U.S. that can be used to house those who have no housing. 2,220,300 adults were in …show more content…

Five percent of taxpayers’ dollars goes to corrections, adding up to about 80 billion dollars a year spent on incarceration in the United States. So much money will be saved just by sending away the burdens of American society. Some people might argue that sending criminals to Antarctica is too inhumane, but Americans clearly care more about money than other people, especially felons, so sending the criminals away is obviously the right choice to make for the good of all Americans. It can also be argued that if the criminals are sent away their families will be unable to visit them, but what people fail to see is that this instead offers a vacation opportunity for families, which can be paid in part by the money saved in this process. Overall this economic opportunity would just be too good to pass up, even if the people involved were in unjust
