In the American Politics Today, text book, a public policy is described as, “a course of action pursued by government to address a specific problem” (Bianco and Canon 413). Planned Parenthood Action Fund is a policy that is considered a national nonprofit organization and according to the website that they own, “the Action Fund is the nonpartisan advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America” (PlannedParenthood). The organization provides certain free services to men and women who are over the age of ten and are American citizens. Adults seeking free Planned Parenthood service must not make over 200% of the federal poverty level, but anyone under the age of twenty-one automatically qualifies, no matter their parents’ …show more content…

Planned Parenthood is able to provide these free services because of the 500 million dollars they receive from government funding yearly. Planned Parenthood has two main offices; one in New York and one in Washington D.C. but has health centers all over the country. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund has many pros and cons; it is a controversial policy due to how much money they receive from the government and where it goes, and it is also a heated topic for many Democrats and Republicans; many Republican presidential candidates, like Ted Cruz and Carly Fiorina, want to defund and get rid of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. Like every other policy there are pros and cons to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and the officials elected by the people of the United States will have to work together to find a compromise for the country. Most people against the Planned Parenthood Action fund are pro-life and mostly just against abortion, but even if Planned Parenthood Federation of America was defunded, abortions would still be legal and still performed, but maybe even more without the free provision of birth control. The only way to stop abortion is to make it illegal, not by defunding Planned Parenthood. Maybe Republican politicians like Carly Fiorina or Ted Cruz will be able to defund Planned Parenthood Federation of America in the upcoming years, but maybe the democrats will once again block their attempts and keep The Planned Parenthood Action Fund
