Fundee Tongtip - Pro Imperialism Although imperialism has some negative impacts, its positive aspects have proved to help the United States to grow into accomplishing its goal of becoming a global superpower. They became a global superpower and achieved investments and trade presence through imperialism. The United States and the Philippines were going through war because the United States annexed the Philippines from Spain in the treaty of Paris, which led to the United States' need for commercial trading in Asia. Another significant investment made in imperialism that helped the United States become a global power was the Panama Canal. The Panama canal was an investment made by Roosevelt to help with trade routes with Latin American countries. “Roosevelt reasoned that the United States must create and maintain fiscal and political stability within strategically important nations in Latin America, particularly those affecting routes to and from the proposed Panama Canal.” Roosevelt administration's officials believed that this European tradition of military intervention posed a severe threat to American interests in the region and created the Panama canal. Though one of the United States’ biggest trade partners is the Latin American countries, they also wanted to expand more of their trading to Asian markets.
