Theodore Roosevelt or also known as Teddy was the 26th president of the United State of America. Teddy was first elected Vice President in 1900 (A&E). He served under president William McKinley but then was elected to be president on September 14th, 1901 because of the death of McKinley.
Theodore Roosevelt had sort of a different childhood from other kids at the time you could say. When Theodore was young he had astma which caused him to be ill for large amounts of time (Miller Policy). Teddy did get to grow up playing sports and doing active activities just like most other kids, but the difference for him was that he was homeschooled. Theodore served for the New York Assembly for two years ending in 1884. Becoming a member of the states assembly was just the beginning. After he left the assembly in 1884 he became the United States Civil service commisioner in 1889 (Hall of fame governers). He stayed in the commisioner job tell 1895. In 1899 Theodore Roosevelt was elected 33rd governer of New York (Hall of fame governers). While Theodore was governer he was able to make 3 large changes. First he was able to improve labor laws, second; he outlawed racial segregation in public schools, and lastly, he was able to advance the park and forestry programs at the time.(hall of fame …show more content…

The canal was created for the purpose to be able to travel in a shorter distance by water, before the Panama Canal was created the United States were having to tavel early by going up and around South Africa to make it to there destination in Cuba. President Roosevelt and also congress negotiated with Britian for the support on the American controlled canal (Sidney Milkas). With the land, United States senate was able to negotiate a with Colombia route through Panama. Colombia balked at the agreements which led to the United states giving support and agreements with the Panamanian Revolution. The revolution came with not only money from the United States but also a Navel blockade stopping all Colombian troops from entering or landing in Panama (Sidney Milkas). In 1903 the Hay Bunau Varilla treaty with Panana, the United States were given the Perpetual control on the canal. The only thing that the United States has Had to do is buy it for $10 million and also had to have an annual payment of $250 thousand (Sidney Milkas). President Theodore was also the first president ever to travel to a different country. He taveled in 1906 to look over and see the progress of the Panama
