This paper will discuss the options that may be available for Rick Mitterbrand in relation to the registration of a new political party under the desired name, in which he is the President and registered officer, under the Commonwealth Electoral Act (“CEA”) and whether he can avoid investigation by ASIO. Firstly, we will examine the requirements for registration of political parties under part XI of the CEA, the procedure for dealing with an application for registration when it is lodged with the Electoral Commission and the review of certain decisions under this part of the CEA. We will then consider judicial review from a statutory perspective and whether this option may be available to Mr Mitterbrand. We will also look at merits review
Did you know that the U.S has the oldest constitution in the world? A constitution is a framework for a government and our government has many different parties of government. Some of them include the Republican and the Democrats. However, James Madison, who is the “father of the government,” stated that our government is a “Republican-Democratic” government. Why do we need a republican-democratic government?
Is Gerrymandering a Controversial Topic? Gerrymandering is a process where the ruling political party uses the map of their state to draw lines that create voting districts in favor of their party. The result of this is that it doesn’t reflect the voters political views. For about 200 years the government has used gerrymandering during political elections and it continues to be used today (King, Elizabeth) .
According to classical republicanism, the major purpose of government is to promote the common good, to create civically virtuous citizens, and to create a well-balanced government. The idea of Promoting the common good can be found in The Affordable Care Act, an attempt by the Obama Administration to provide every United States citizen with quality access to healthcare. Providing each U.S. citizen with healthcare is in the benefit of the entire country subsequently promoting the common good. The Patriot Act another piece of legislation in response to the September 11th attacks, the main purpose is to deter, and punish terrorist acts in America or around the World. Responding to these horrific events demonstrates that the Government is actively
Democrat or Republican? I am a democrat. My first reason why I support the democratic side is because I believe that the wealthy needs to pay more taxes. My second reason is that I believe in quality, affordable healthcare.
Donald Trump will destroy this country if he’s elected President. This Presidential Campaign has proven it. He’s a reality television host not the person that should be our next President. All of his “qualities” are perfect examples on why he shouldn’t be President. Trump is not suited to be the next president.
A citizen would not be wasting their vote by voting for a third party candidate because it is not a waste of a vote if they believe in the person you vote for or if they believe it is the right choice. For example if the citizen agrees with the candidates policies they will be voting for the right reasons. This is because they are not voting for anyone just because they are popular and are said to win. A citizen should want their message to be advocated to america through someone who believes in their message. That someone will promote issues that the citizens want to be heard.
Party strength is a measure of the ability of a party to get people to vote for its candidates. The post-World War II shift in party strength was part of a massive shift in policy over time. Scholars saw Republican politicians increasingly excel at getting elected at the local level (Lublin 2006), to offices in the state (Hayes and McKee 2007), and federal governments (Black and Black 2002, 1992; Shafer and Johnston 2006). It is difficult to see how the Republican Party would have become the majority in Congress in 1994 without the increased voting strength in the South. This marked a dramatic shift in national policy.
The topic I have decided to address is one of the numerous political problems that we as a nation face and their concerns must be addressed. This issue started with the House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) are asking President Obama to force Congress to cut wasteful Washington spending and pledging bipartisan support for this critical effort. In a letter to the President, the GOP leaders ask him to invoke his authority under the Impoundment Control Act of 1974 to submit specific proposals rescinding spending already in place. Currently now President Obama is calling for wasteful and ineffective programs to be placed on the chopping block in order for the revising of the United States Spending
This is because “California will, probably, next fall away from Mexico... Imbecile and distracted, Mexico never can exert any real Government authority over such a country” (O’Sullivan 323). US makes excuses to get California. They try to make everyone think that taking land away from Mexico would be the best thing to do. They make it seem as though going to war, and taking California and Texas away from them, will the Mexican government a favor.
California said that of Trump became president they would leave the US and they still support this claim. California also pays the most toward Washington 's elections. California is one of the most populated states in America which means that if they do split they aren 't Americans anymore. And personally I feel as though Trump won 't support their decision, or California 's new country in general.
The reasons why California residents are so worried is because they assume that there will be a decrease in employment, have an increase in the price of the products, and it will have little to no effect on reducing poverty. First of off, with the new minimum wage being presented
America is known by many to be the best countries in the world but there are still many things that stand in the way of the american dream (Stealing From America). One of these things is corporate lobbyist. These people have slowly taken over american democracy with pay to play corruption and giant lobbying teams (The Atlantic). Nowadays unions and protest have been much less successful in stopping the behemoth that is a corporate lobbying team(Secular Talk). Corporation will continue to grow wealth inequality in america if we do nothing about it.
Democracy is a system of government in which the power to govern is vested on the citizens. This power is exercised either directly wherein citizens reach a consensus to implement policies, or indirectly through the election of representatives who will act on behalf of the citizen's interest (Janda, Berry, Goldman, and Hula, 2012). In such states that have adapted democratic government, political participation is the hallmark of citizens' right and ability to exercise their power. The definition of political participation, as with all concepts of social sciences, is subject to debate since most social science concepts are subject to the changing norms of society and government. Thus, this paper defines political participation as a social phenomenon that takes on different forms which is used by citizens to influence government policies and politics.
