YES! to School Uniforms

Traditionally, private schools and parochial institutions, favor the use of school uniforms of students. Especially in the Philippines where wearing of school uniforms is considered the norm, even in public schools. Here in Silliman University, its seems the debate of “should we or shouldn’t we” and the pros and cons of the use of school uniforms is a never-ending debate. Strong opinions of those pro in the implementation of school uniforms countered with just as fervent rebuttals. For us it is about time for a change in our system. The implementation of school uniforms in Silliman University is a necessity in order to alleviate social classism, have the students focus fully on their studies rather than on the way …show more content…

And it, admittedly, is fun and comforting to dress however your mood is for that day. It is fun to dress up in order to raise your confidence especially when you know that you look good in your outfit and be in good spirits for the day. Fashion is at its peak right now and the cool trends are exciting, but fashion has no place in school where learning and knowledge are the only thing that matters- and should be the only one that matters. It is important to always remember that the fashion statements that are so “in” today aren’t really appropriate in the school setting and can be a distraction, not just to the other students no matter the gender, but to the teachers themselves who try their best to wear appropriate clothing in the classroom and be presentable to the students. As former US president Clinton said, “If it means that the schoolrooms will be more orderly, more disciplined, and that our young people will learn to evaluate themselves by what they are on the inside instead of what they 're wearing on the outside, then our public schools should be able to require their students to wear school uniforms.”
