Get Rid of Senate Bill 11 For years, we thought of school’s as a place to leave our kids to learn free from fear and violence. However, Senate Bill 11, has passed allowing individuals with concealed hand licenses to carry their guns on Texas college campuses. Which has distilled fear upon some faculty, students, and staff. There are some people who would disagree because they believe Senate Bill 11 would make our campuses safer, but we should get rid of Senate Bill 11. It will only lead us to catastrophe. Senate Bill 11 is going to cause an increase in violence on college campuses, disrupt students learning environments, and make it harder to protect individuals on campus. Senate Bill 11 is fighting violence with violence and it is going to cause an escalation in violent crimes on campuses. The answer to bullets flying should not be more bullets flying. As a Del Mar College student I know most of us Vikings take pride in our school and love to learn, but there are times we have argumentative debates in class. However, since Senate Bill 11 will be taking effect at Del Mar College in August. I now fear that I will not be able to voice my opinions or correct a student when their wrong because I will be afraid they might lash out on me. Teachers have also stated,” they fear if a student is given a bad grade their might be retaliation against them” and now that students can carry concealed guns’ things can turn violent quickly. We should be able to go to school and feel safe. We should not have to worry about our classrooms turning into crime scenes. Our fears of what might happen to us are going to hinder us students from learning and affect us greatly.
