In 1776 it was an astonishing act to argue that humans were politically equal. The right to rule must be based on agreement or a Social Contract. A Social Contract is a theory referring to the presumption of
Social contracts in America have been molded around public policy through the years. Public policy is influenced by the citizens of America and the countries stability. Social contracts like the Affordable Care Act (ACA) conveys a political message that the government is establishing a social contract with the citizens of America. The ACA established a social contract with physicians and hospitals by mandating rules and regulations. However, both social contracts have flaws that can hinder physician and patient relationship, care, and cost.
Many of John Lock's ideas about social contracts were used in the Declaration of Independence. His ideas were used to explain peoples rights, the purpose of governments, and citizens responsibilities to abusive governments. Locke believed that everyone has the right to life, liberty, and property. In Locke's essay Social Contract, he says, "We retain the right to life and liberty, and gain the right to just, impartial protection of our property." In the Declaration of independence Thomas Jefferson changed that to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Social Contract is known as the basic concept that the people of a society are supposed to be subject to laws/rules, whether they’re right or wrong. The US Civil Rights Movement is a good example of justifying breaking the social contract. The US Civil Rights Movement was a time between 1954 to 1968 that involved a series of events that would later end up to colored people being freed from segregation laws along with gaining equality in society, even though this led to a time that made discrimination rise significantly. Breaking the social contract was justified in this occasion because of how much colored people were going through, therefore they had to break laws regarding segregation in order to gain justice.

If one person doesn’t want to be a part of the general well, the whole body of the general well shall force them to be. The people are supposed to come to a consensus about their will and force it upon others, but their consensus can be hijacked by one

The social contract in John Locke’s declaration is the State of Nature. The natural condition of mankind is a state of perfect and complete liberty to conduct one’s life as one best sees fit. Locke’s social contract is best described as freedom from the interference of others in one’s life. The State of Nature is pre-political, but it is not pre-moral by today’s standards. Another social contract from Locke is the Law of Nature.
This contract is a set of rules that governs how people treat each other within a society. What we need to understand is that with this contract, there are still going to be those few who violate it. What contractualism justifies is that the state, its laws, and mechanisms of social control by arguing that those must be present in society to prevent from regressing into a state of nature wherein theft, violence, and other social issues would run rampant (Arrigo, 2012, p. 115). As these young children are developing, the social contract may be too difficult for them to understand until they have reached a certain level of maturity. Another way to better understand this would be to look at Kohlberg’s Moral Stages of Development.

Terrance Kodger Kodger 1 History 102 Kevin Grubbs 22 March 2018 The Social Contract The Social Contract was a book which was written by Jean- Jacques Rosseau in 1762 in the mist of a monarchial French government. In this book Rosseau discusses his theories on how to establish a political community in the face of a broken commercial society. The main political objective discussed in this book was getting rid of the monarchy which was in power and give more political power to the people. Although many people did support Rosseau certain individuals such as Adam Smith felt that the commercial society they already lived on was the best thing
Book One of The Social Contract by Jean-Jacques Rousseau focuses on the reasons that people give up their natural liberty in order to achieve protection from threats to themselves and their property. This results in the formation of a legitimate sovereign where all members are equal. Rousseau believes that no human has authority over another individual because force cannot be established. He argues that no individual will give up his or her freedom without receiving something in return. I will focus my analysis on how the social contract states that we must give up our individual rights in order to obtain equality and security.
Essentially it sets out to establish a moral code of behavior for both sides of the treaty. The social contract appears throughout our world significantly. One example of this is the
A social contract is where a group of people work and protect each other and give up some freedom. Law of nature are things we know are good and bad. These are some of the terms but there were more. A famous person I learned about in this unit is john locke. He was an enlightenment thinker.
After these contracts are established, however, then society becomes possible, and people can be expected to keep their promises, cooperate with one another, and so on. I believe that thanks to the social contract we created justice and established what is moral and immoral for the whole society and not only on what we think could be moral or immoral. This topic may be controversial for some people because they will probably think that even though the social contract was created to be equal for all people there are some things until today that does not apply for all. But for me that is not a strong reason to do not believe in the Social contract I strongly believe in this theory because this is what makes a civil society with justice and morality. A philosopher Stuart Rachels suggests that, “ morality is the set of rules governing behavior that rational people accept, on the condition that others accept them too”.
