The short story “Soldier’s Home” made me think about all the soldiers who miss home or have no family to recognize them in their glory in which what they’re doing for our nation. This shows how all of the men and women miss
I always figured that everything was taken care of and life over there was fine. After all, as a citizen of the United States you never really hear about what it is actually like in the war. Most Americans and myself do not realize the everyday struggle and fight our soldiers go through. They risk their lives everyday so that I am able to live my life of freedom here in the United States. I never realized all the work and time they put forth in order to protect our country.
There are around hundreds of Americans that fight for our country every year. These are the people that risk their lives to give all Americans the freedoms and rights that some other countries can only dream about. When they leave to defend the USA they are leaving their family and friends, not knowing if they will come home. However, it’s not just soldiers that defend the country and risk their lives. The police, firefighters, and even EMT’s have the risk of losing their lives when called to duty.
Every night some soldiers sacrifice their sleep and a bit of their health to help and care for
Not only are the soldiers affected by war, but regular civilians living at home are as well. Many people feel that soldiers show absolutely no emotion and are extraordinary people. However, in “Imagine Dying” written by Rick Loomis, the author proves his audience wrong when he states “here was a group of men, 37 in all, whom [he] viewed as courageous warriors, well-trained and well-equipped, and they seemed to be falling one by one right in front of him” (3). Although the majority of a population feel soldiers are extremely brave and are seldom afraid of their circumstances, this is untrue. Loomis spent a long period of time with a group of soldiers and came to the conclusion they are everyday, ordinary people simply fulfilling the role of
Solution and outcome: Bring our troops home, save lives and money. As the United Sates Secretary of State I’d advise the President to pull our troops out of Afghanistan. Obamas administration estimates that keeping 9,800 soldiers there at the end of 2105 would cost about twenty billion dollars, or 1.2 million dollars per soldier per year. We would be saving over $1 million per service member.
Maybe it is because from them seeing people getting killed or maybe having to kill someone in war or other experiences they might have had. When a veteran returns home sometimes they can handle what they have seen and faced and some get post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from being in war and some take their own lives. When a veteran comes home like this it has to be hard not just on the veteran but their entire families. Its also hard on the veteran and the families when they leave for war. I think it would be for me just not knowing if they were going to return or not or if they did return could it be the same has when they left.
What Are the Pros and Cons of Military Spending? As the US economy tanked, the banks have been bailing out and the country losing its jobs, its military spending has continued to grow. For the past years, it is recorded to have increased more than 100%, which is very high compared to the height of Ronald Reagan’s presidency and the Cold War. The money allocated for the defense budget is used to purchase sophisticated weapons that often do not make it into production, but when they do, they are just too expensive to maintain.
Us Americans should be helping our troops when they come home. We do not treat our veterans right. They fight for our country, but when they come home they are not treated right. The physical, mental and emotional fatigue that comes with serving in combat is immense and many soldiers see their
Also they have to leave their family. When we see them we should say Hi or hug them. In addition too we should be caring for them because they help people when they get hurt. They save people's lives and they know that when they come back they might not have a job to work at. I want to see a person that's in the army or something.
Some places around the country are trying to combat this issue in an effective way. For example the city of New Orleans found a better way to help the veterans. The mayor made a program in which they “identify and locate each homeless veteran living in our city.’(Landrieu). The city “organized a special push … about 150 active duty military personnel and veterans joined the effort to systematically seek and engage every homeless veteran. ”(Landrieu)
In the United States thousands of veterans are not able to leave behind the horrors and traumatic events they experience while at war. They bring the war home and have to re-experience it in their minds each and every day, no matter how much time has passed since their last battle or traumatic
My saying in life is “it is what it is” and it is sad to think that in this situation, the homeless get the worse end of the
The war is something no one wants to go through. Soldiers train to fight for their country and for their very lives. In doing so, the war isn’t a pretty place to be in. Many soldiers have returned with diseases, missing limbs, and mental trauma. After fighting the war, numerous soldiers return home injured or has contracted some type of health condition or disease.
These are all things that people in refugee camps around the world could only dream of. Unfortunately we cannot help all of the refugees in the world, but if we can help just a few it will make a difference. We can help out by providing funds to organisations like the UN and also by raising awareness for the refugees. We can also educate our children about the conditions that the refugees have to live in and how they can raise awareness and support for the cause. These are all viable ways to raise awareness for the refugees, but that does not guarantee that they will be helped.
