The discrepancy between opposing opinions among United States citizens’ views on gun control is a large problem that has faced the nation for several years. Due to recent tragedies related to the issue, many Americans have responded in outrage, demanding more rigorous laws related to firearm control; Others believe it would only be harmful to enact stricter gun laws, under the idea that it would present a lack of self-defense. This essay will review the pros and cons of the opposing views surrounding the controversy, and analyze the individual aspects of both opinions, while discussing possible resolutions to the issue.

Several possible solutions to gun related crimes are being discussed. An idea that has been considered prior to the recent Parkland school shooting where 17 were killed is being looked at closely; Some believe that arming certain staff, whether teachers or security personnel in schools could help to prevent school shootings. The issue that is being considered with this idea is that it presents a safety hazard if a firearm entered the wrong hands. Lawmakers are also pushing for the age limitation on firearm sales to be raised from 18 years of age to 21 years of age. It is possible that this heightened restriction could reduce school shootings due to the idea that students could not legally purchase firearms. Some believe that if all firearms were confiscated and made illegal it would drastically reduce the crime rate. Trump has responded by suggesting that congress raises the legal age to purchase firearms and passing a bill to make certain weapon performance modifications illegal to attempt to dissipate the anger among those that are pro gun control, consequently the NRA was displeased with Trump's decision, considering they supported him during the elections.
