Thesis: The problem in society today is in the industry of social media. In efforts to attract the eye of the general population, advertising companies create billboards, commercials, flyers and other ads with stereotypes that are accepted in today’s society. Because of the nations’ cultural expectation for all different types of people, advertisement businesses follow and portray exactly what and how each specific gender, race, or religion should be.
Being a fast food worker for the past year and a half, I have been exposed to numerous different types of people, and most of them are not the same race as me. When I first started to get to know them, even though at times there was difficulty communicating, we were able to make it work and build stronger relationships. One of my favorite managers was Rose, a Hispanic woman who had been so kind to me. She was an example of someone who was able to teach me things about herself I could have stereotyped and not taken the time to learn anything about her as an individual. Growing up in Joliet, Illinois has always given me the opportunity to experience race relations on a regular basis, just due to the diversity of the city that I live in.
The constant bombardment of negative associations of minorities affects how the public views those within these groups. Unconsciously people are affected by these images even those within the Black community. A study in 2006 showed that Blacks that watched a lot of television tended to have more distrust for their neighbors, be less likely to join groups and have a negative attitude toward their neighbors than their, White counter parts viewing the same things. (Beaudoin & Thorson, 2006). These types of problems are only furthering the divide between racial groups.
National Security within the United States has been a concern since the 1930s and is only heightened during times of war. Naturally, due to the conflicts with particular countries, World War II and the Cold War created racial stereotypes. Unfortunately, those stereotypes lead to racially bias legal doctrines being created within the United States . The court was not alone in shaping these doctrines, as there was immense pressure from both public and military interests. East Asians commonly find themselves to be victims of stereotyping with negative consequences like discrimination. The racial grouping Asian American refers to 29 singular countries and cultures including China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Mongolia, North Korea,South Korea,Taiwan (Kim). Although each culture is distinct, most East Asians are treated similarly in the United States. The same goes for Asian Americans that are naturalised and those that were born citizens. Racism is an ongoing global issue that has oppressed many 'minorities ' for years now. Single motherhood calls for a great balance to be struck – between parenting, earning a livelihood and finding little time to spend on yourself. Everything that must be done starts with your own hands – cooking, washing, cleaning, taking care of children and keeping house. But today, as divorce rates increase, more and women are becoming single parents – empowered, strong and able to manage on their own.
It can be inferred that when a single parent takes on a child, they think of any given situation that life might throw their way and prepare and plan for the worst so the kid does not end up back in Foster Care. an article even states “What prospective single parents do need, however, is a lot of self-reflection. Because it’s hard to raise a child alone, prospective parents should take stock of several key issues, including finances, lifestyle and support. Ms. Hochman offers these questions to consider, especially for singles, before plunging into the adoption process” (Adoption and the single guy, Lisa Beach). This evidence shows that when adopting singles are questioned and checked to make sure they are fit to care for a child.
