Pros And Cons Of The US Measurement System

The United States has been questioned on its measurement system for years. Should we continue using it, or should we convert and use SI units? In my personal opinion, I think we should continue using our US customary units as our dominant system. Most people in the United States know the US customary units very well, but have trouble using SI units. It would also be too costly to suddenly convert. If we need to use SI units for international trade, there are some solutions we can use. Sticking with our current system is the right way to go. The foot-pound-second system (FPS), another name for US customary units, has been used in the United States for a long time. Everyone raised here knows how to use it. It’s what we are accustomed too, and changing to a new system would be very challenging. There are several difficult obstacles we would have to overcome in order to successfully convert. We would have to teach all of our citizens the new system. It is currently being taught in school, but since we don’t normally use the metric system in everyday life, it would be hard to suddenly change. In fact, it would actually be very expensive. As I stated before, we would have to change several things. All road signs would have to be torn down and replaced with new ones. Speedometers that don’t have kilometers would have to be changed also. Any measurement tool that didn’t use SI units would have to be converted. People would also have to learn the new way of measuring. Companies could release programs that teach the metric system, but they probably would put a price on them too. No offense, but most people are lazy nowadays, and I’m sure they don’t want to spend money on something that clearly isn’t needed. In result, the government would have to help people learn SI units for free. A lot of money would have to be spent by the government and companies to make the metric system
