When thinking of a prison the first thing that comes to most people’s minds is the prisoners and how they are treated. What most people don’t realize is that the prisoners are treated better than one would think. Don’t get me wrong it’s no five star hotel, but it is nicer than most schools are. The reason is that it costs $54,865 per prisoner in the state of New Jersey. Right now the state of New Jersey is only spending $19,211 per student. Half of the money that is getting spent on the prisoners could be going toward state schools, or fixing roads. The amount that is spent on the prisoners is a lot more than it should be. The amount of time off they get depends on what they are doing. The classes they go to can give them up to 3 weeks off their release if they finish their class and get their GED if they need it. Just for cleaning the cell they live in they can get time off. Getting time off their release is something that is really hurting the prison system. If a prisoner wants to change gender the prison has to pay for it. The prison isn’t really paying for it the tax payer are. Why should the tax payers have to pay for someone else gender surgery? Why should the tax payer pay for anything surgery or fixes the prisoners have to get done to them? The reason is because he have to. No other reason to it but that. No one is fighting against it so nothing is going to get done about it. The only why that the tax payers are going to not have to pay for what happens at the prisons is to rise up and fight for it. Yes the prisoner need basic human rights and things to live off of but that doesn’t mean we have to feed them better than most people are eating or give them things that most people would never have living of the money they make in the prison. There is a good to them working and learning. It does help them learn how the outside world actually works. Almost everything that each of the prisoners have done I can agree on why they are put in the prison so it shows them that hey don’t do this or you will be back here. The life lessons that being in prison teaches them is also something we have to keep in mind. Not every person in prison is “prison ready”. The small nerdy white kid I am is not ready for prison even though I am 18 so having the TV you can buy helps a person like me ease into the whole “prison
