Many of the children who grew up in the foster care system where they were abused and had a loss of identity tend to end up suffering from psychological and emotional problems, and oftentimes these problems do not emerge until later in life. These problems can stem from loss of identity, trauma, disrupted relationships, cultural disconnection, loss of language, lack of trust, and intergenerational problems. A social worker from the university of british columbia, professor Raven Sinclair describes these and this professor describes these horrible experiences these children had to endure as creating “tremendous obstacles to the development of a strong and healthy sense of identity for the transracial adoptee”(n.d.) March 13, 2023). Overall, the foster care system and the 1960s scoop had profound and lasting effects on Indigenous communities in Canada, impacting their sense of identity, culture, spirituality, and well-being.
I have gone through life associated with ownership and being talked of as if I am property. My childhood years of education have consisted of alternative assignments to those in regards to family history or the heredity unit of science classes. Within the faces of young children who stand with their adoptive families, I see a piece of myself and hope they will not struggle to endure the insensitivity to the culture of adoption and that their sense of identity will only be strengthened. I lacked an understanding of what would come of being a trans-racial adoptee and grew blind to ignorance at a young age, never gaining insight on the subject at hand. Although the culture of adoption has created uncomfortable and unfamiliar years, it also led me to challenge convention, embrace individuality, and find unconditional love from an early
Since the day of the judgment between Athens and Socrates in 399 year B.C. many historians, philosophers, and students wonder to know whether Socrates was Guilty. Philosopher was accused in corrupting the youth, not believing in the recognized gods and introducing new divinities and in the rejection of civic life in democratic society. It is very difficult to answer on this question, may be even impossible. In my opinion, there are three types of people: 1.
The issues that children face today are intense and tremendous. These issues continue with discrimination in adoption. These people see by color instead of the child. The love for a child should not matter by the color of their skin, but by who they are. Children need loving homes with caring parents.
“Color Blind!” “But if white parents treat race as if it doesn’t matter, the kids have to figure out what it means to be color on their own,” says Judy Stigger, an adoption therapist (Dunham). According to At Issue, from SIRS data base, Trans – or interracial adoption involves the adoption of a child of one racial or ethnicity by parents of another. In the United States, interracial adoptions were almost unheard of until the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. In 1972, the Black Association of Social Workers issued a statement condemning interracial adoption, calling it a form of cultural genocide.
When it comes to adoption to me I believe it can either be a sad situation or a good outcome for the child, but to me having to see a child leave their parent is heartbreaking but if it is what is best for everyone than in that type of situation it is better to give the child up. Personally I do not know anyone who has done an interracial adoption but, was never against them. For me I think it would be very hard to go back and see someone you have not seen since you were given up for adoption and do not know if I could actually have the courage to do it. I think when it comes to interracial adoption you can look at it many different ways and come up with many different pros and cons when thinking about it. One negative for sure could be that you may never know your actual cultures ways and values for sure if your adopted parents are not willing to practice or even talk about where you may of came from, but in that situation it could also make the adoption a little easier on the child and also the parents who adopt the child because it could make the process go a little smoother and have the child get to know their new family more and their way of doing things.
There are three issues in this report about interracial adoption. They are debating on race and adoption, overcoming international adoption and matter of race in adoption. In cases a highly charged topic reached a peak in the early 1070s (New York Times).the National Association of Black Social Workers doomed such adoptions as alike to cultural slaughter chilled to practice, making their first mission to find families of the same color and or race. In june 1993, 75% of the 17,826 children waiting to be adopted in New york City were black.
Kelsey Newton Sarah Condiff 4226-25ZC April 29th, 2022 Struggles Of Adoption Adoption is a complex and multifaceted process that can provide a loving and stable home for children in need. According to the Adoption Network, there are currently over 400,000 children (about half the population of Delaware) in foster care in the United States, and more than 100,000 of these children are waiting for adoption. While the adoption process can be challenging, the rewards of providing a permanent home for a child in need are immeasurable. In this paper, we will explore the experiences of children in foster care, the challenges of adoption, and the process of adopting a child, with a focus on domestic adoption and foster care adoption. By examining these
The increase in transracial adoptions comes with the added expense of more individuals finding and having conflict with their identity. One individual stated “…black does not equal brown. Brown is in our eyes; “black” is in our mind (Patton, 2000, p. 60). This individual statement sheds light on how transracially adopted individuals’ may feel in comparison to their race. The emphasis on transracial adoptions and the conflict with identity is important for individuals who decide to adopt transracially.
In 2015, the Children’s Rights Program conducted a study in which they found that more than half of the children in the foster care system are of color. This is a huge discovery since it is known by Americans that many people living here have struggles and may not have the best area for children to be
Introduction “Maybe these babies grew in the wrong stomachs, but now they have found the right parents” (Evans, 2008, pg. 159). Transracial adoption is the adoption of a child of one race by a parent or parents of a different race (Baden et al., 2012). This occurs both domestically (inter-country) and internationally (Ung et al., 2012). The history of international adoption stems from the Korean War (1950-1953)
Adoption is typically an option that is thought about when the process of conceiving a biological child is out of the question. For some couples it may be infertility, potential hereditary health problems, or that carrying a child would be dangerous to the mother and unborn child. Those are just some issues that would cause a heterosexual couple to contemplate the idea of adopting a child, but what about couples of the same-sex? Same-sex couples do not have the means to reproduce together so many opt for adoption, which sounds easy, but typically is not. Adoption is a long and hard drawn out process for any couple, but for couples that are of the same-sex, they typically get the shorter end of the stick.
Thus, it is important to investigate the factors that aid (protective factors) or inhibit (risk factors) transracial adoptees in developing a healthy and positive racial identity so as to ensure the children’s welfare.

A family is not defined or determined by blood or relations, legal documents or last names. One is called a family when all members receive and give equal love to each other regardless the parent’s sexual orientation. Gay adoption gives no disadvantage at any cause to children but, in the contrary, allows them to have a family they long for. Adoption is a process whereby a person assumes the parenting of another from that person’s legal or biological parents or parent. After this procedure, it allows them to handover all rights and responsibilities from the real or biological parents.
