U.S immigration law is extremely intricate. Ever since 1965, The Immigration And Naturalization Act has been the body of law governing the current immigration policy. The US has created various quotas and requirements that people who plan on coming to the country must adhere to. There are three principles in the United States’ policy of immigration: the reunification of families, the promotion of diversity, the protection of refugees and admission of immigrants with skills that may help the economy. Despite these various ways, many believe that our system is outdated and has not kept up with the ever-changing world economy. They state, “In addition to the numerical limits placed upon the various immigration preferences, the INA also places a limit on how many immigrants can come to the United States from any one country.” In other words, the US has a policy set in place that may not be fair because it may choose to turn its back on thousands of people who are fleeing their country and are in need of help. Furthermore, the article states,“Each year the President, in consultation with Congress, determines the numerical ceiling for refugee admissions. The total limit is broken down into limits for each region of the world as well.” This means that the US is able to choose not to let people in based on their nationality. The system is unfair, because, if decided by president, thousands of refugees who need help could be ignored just for the sake of our own nation. This could potentially turn onto a discriminatory policy and offend hundreds and thousands of people. This can be seen in Executive Order 13769, in which trump banned immigration from seven major muslim
