One of the most significant innovation in the medical field in the past century is the organ transplantation. Thousands of lives are being saved by undergoing this process but transplantation has become a victim of itself. A huge number of patients die each day because of organ insufficiency. This shortage of organs from humans are discovered due of having a large percentage of people who needs it, or having a greater demand that exceeds the supply of the donors. This inadequate supply of organs created a gap between organ supply and demand. First, it can be a substitute and a supplement for human organs. Although some people are against of it because it can affect the normal function of a human’s immune system and there is no record about the patients who lived even a year after receiving animal organs, the experts are still studying about Xenotransplantation to prove that it can really fill-in the decreasing donors of human organs. Second, it can ease the shortage available for transplantation. Animal organs can be a temporary exchange for human organs because of its decreasing availability. Lastly, it is able to close the gap between demand and supply. Upon having positive results on clinical tests, Xenotransplantation can meet the huge amount of organ demand and the minimal organ supply. Cons are also included in the study of Xenotransplantation. First, when it becomes to life saving. Animals have shorter life spans than people do. If the transplants are successful, there are chances of organ dying or the person carrying the organ from the animal wears out prematurely. Multiple transplants are needed by the patient because of the organ wearing out. Second is the transmission of diseases.
