“Part of education is to help students be prepared for jobs, all year schooling allows students to be more prepared for professional work day hours. In the real world, employees do not get 3 months off. “ —Doctor Hawk Because we agree with the statement by Doctor Janelle Hawk, my partners and I affirm the resolution: Year round schooling benefits students, their families, and the community. We offer the following three reasons to support our side. Overcrowding, frequent breaks, and benefits to low income families.
Some people think school should be year round, I strongly agree with this. People will get to see their friends more often. Also, a less chance of students forgetting info. Lastly, students would have more free time throughout the year. This is why school all year round is a great idea.
I believe that year round schooling will greatly benefit students, teachers, and families. " Since most of us grew up with the traditional calendar, changing to year-round [suggests] that we did it wrong.... It is human nature to resist change, (but) I believe the traditional nine months on, three months off calendar is educational malpractice," said Nautilus Elementary school Principal, Hazel Colebank (qtd. In Chaika).
Year-round schooling can cause students to become more stressed out versus traditional schooling. As we have seen the different pros and cons, I would like to firmly state that public year-round schooling shouldn’t be implemented in our education system. I do not believe in it for our current generation or any future ones. Many students do not need the strict structure of year-round schooling, as they are becoming increasingly smarter. Year-round schooling, like many other ideas, has its pros and cons but can be steadily confirmed as ineffective.
It is a great idea to do Year-round schooling because it can improve a child’s academic achievement. The schedule can make it easier for students to access tutoring and they are less likely to forget material over a short break than a long summer vacation. Tests show that about 2.6 months of learning is lost during the summer, and Year-round schooling is a solution for that, according to an article on National Association for Year-round Education’s website. Also scores for ACT testing increased for students who participate in Year-round schooling.
“That some educators, keeps the learning process ongoing with minimal disruption. A Duke University study even suggested kids attending year-round schools are at a slight advantage, because they don’t forget what they learned during the long summer break.” Kids that have year-round school have advantages over other kids because everyone knows more than others because when kids are off for summer kids in year-round school schedule are still in school doing work. However, year-round school is difficult but people like going to year-round school. Sometimes people that are in a year-round school don’t have time to do a lot of things like sports or just time to chill family.
(“Is year-round school really a good idea?”) But even though there are many benefits of not having year-round school having summer has just risen higher than not having summer. Once again, year-round school is not helpful to the students. Kids need good mental health they should be here. They also need life skills.
When considering the choice of whether, schools should convert to year round schooling or not, the choice should definitely be schools should not convert to year round schooling. A few reasons schools should not convert to year round schooling is because students can even forget something they learned, in a short period of time, and then the teachers would have to reteach the same topic, which is extremely frustrating. The students would also spend less time with their family, because they don’t have the traditional summer break. Not only that, but it causes parents more stress to have to plan ahead of time for how they were going to take care of their children whenever they had breaks (which were very frequent). If this claim is not listened to, teachers teach the same thing repeatedly, family bonds weaken, it disrupts parents work, and it risks the child’s safety.
School should not be year round. Kids need a break from learning stuff in school. If we don’t have school year round families and kids could do more fun things because kids wouldn’t be stuck in school for seven hours of their day five days a week. Kids need a break from all the school work because we get too much work. Although school year round could be good for some kids.
“The very thought of sending kids to school year-round makes some parents cringe” (Scholastic). In year-round school, schools continue to operate a hundred and eighty days per year, but they stretch out the hundred and eighty days over the entire year and take shorter breaks between each term. Year-round schools have become increasingly common, both as an academic improvement strategy and as a solution to student and teacher burnout. Student and teacher burnout is when the student or teacher is highly stressed or completely exhausted. Year-round schooling is not necessarily the same as expanded learning time.
Year round school benefit is for a child not to have a lapse in learning or remembering what they’ve learned. That’s when the parents or guardians need’s to step in to continue educational learning. Teachers alone can’t be responsible for the education others need to play their part. Just because summer vacation has started doesn’t mean learning should have stopped. Since year round schooling isn’t what’s normal adjusting could be difficult.
Students can experience more socialization than they do in the summertime. Year-round schooling has more advantages than just regular public schooling. By starting year-round schools across the country we will be able to make education in America worth it by providing With year-round schools it will bring better education to the students that are taking classes at that school. As David Hornak says, “people are now more aware of the negative impact
School Year Round Why would anyone want to go to school a year-round? (Rhetorical Question) School should be a year-round because then students will not forget their learning, be more focused on their education and it will be easier to earn their credits in a shorter period of time. Firstly, A school year-round should be offered each year so students will not forget the learning. Many students that come back from their summer break most likely struggle on what they have learned, for instance, everyone ignores most of the subjects and methods that everyone discovered last year.
Finally, another drawback is that without summer break, there will be a financial toll. In a newspaper article titled “Year Round Schooling Explained”, it says, “Tourism and other industries that count on summer vacationers might suffer. High schoolers might be less able to get summer jobs.” This could end up causing a big financial problem for a lot of people. To conclude, the benefits and drawbacks of year-round schooling are about equal.
Kids should not attend year round schooling because it will lower the amount of effort students put into their work. With the seasons changing into summer, students are usually occupied with many outdoor activities, hobbies, and sports like football, soccer, tennis, basketball, etc. Students would start to lose focus on schooling. They stop trying as hard throughout the year.
