Growing up in the 1975 young adults was more independent in their living situations. During that period of times, young adults didn’t depend on their parents to help them in their new living situations. In this specific time period, the young adults would already have started working to put their selves through school or to support their families, buying their first home, or marriage. Times has changed tremendously from 1975 to 2017; in today time millennials are more focused on going to school and starting on their career. In the article, it shows how young adults in 1975 and today millennials have a different definition of what an adult is; where young adults in 1975 meaning to being an adult is getting married, and millennials definition is finishing school and finding a job in their career field. In the article, Kiersz states "In 1975, a 57% majority of young adults aged 18-34 lived with a spouse, while just 26% of adults lived in their parents’ home." (Kiersz). Shows that in 1975 more adults was married and living on their own than living with their parents. Kiersz also mentions in the article, “In 2016, only 27% of young adults lived with a spouse, while the proportion of 18-34 years old living with their parents went up to 31%, becoming the most common living situation.” (Kiersz). It shows that from 1975 to 2016 of young adults living with a spouse have changed tremendously and how the percentage of young adults living with their parents have risen since its becoming a more common way for young adults to live.
