It has been many years since Chris McCandless was found dead in Bus 142. When he died, his story became public and widely popular, allowing many people to learn of his fatal story. He was known to have been a rubber and later on a leather tramp, while searching for the ultimate conquest of alaska. When he made it to Alaska, he wasn't prepared, which led him to his desperate and lonely death. This sparked the worldwide debate on whether he was stupid, or if he was just living his life.
He traveled many times out into the wilderness to survive with just a few things in the early 1990’s. Eventually his last trip lead to his death. In many ways you can compare McCandless to the Hunger Artist even though his intent wasn’t fame. He starved, influenced others, and had a need to be understood.
He would collect the skulls of small animals and preserve them in jars. As he got older, he didn’t have many friends and became very withdrawn from others. People believe that this was due to his parents divorce

With the elephant being a sense of naivety in the beginning and then a progressive change of becoming strong, Jacob can be compared to this symbol. In the beginning of the novel, the elephant symbolizes Jacob’s life and not fitting in at the circus. Parry-Romberg Syndrome Parry-Romberg syndrome is an uncommon disease that slows the progressive deterioration of the skin and soft tissues in half of the face. This disease usually affects the left side of the face. The disease is more common to happen to females than males. Some signs that you have this disease are facial changes by the upper jaw, between the nose and upper corner of the lip, change in the angle of the mouth, eyes, brow, ear, and neck. This can also affect the tongue, roof of the mouth, and the gums.

Then, we have Babar the Elephant who lives a carefree life until his mother is killed by hunters sacrificing herself for the herd’s safety. As the story continues young Babar is faced with the same situation and brave like his mother risk his life to save the herd as well. Amazingly, he 's not murdered only separated from his family so and learns to survive on his own. Personally, I think it’s sad how Elephants are killed by polluters for their tusks. In King Leopold’s Ghost, he used his power to rob Africa of its natural wealth which included ivory and many other resources.
