Psychotic Behavior Caused by Traumatic Events in Early Childhood
Review of literature indicates that psychotic behavior results in 12 year old children after a traumatic event in early childhood. Psychosis is a very pressing mental disorder where thoughts and emotions are so impaired that contact is lost with reality. There are many ways to detect Psychosis and they are easily noticeable. Traumatic events in early childhood can lead to psychosis in children. However, there is a way to fix psychosis, you can somewhat reshape a child's life through therapy and medications. As soon as the symptoms of psychosis is noticed the proper steps need to be followed immediately before their mental state deepens, it is usually easier to correct the behavior if it is caught in its early stages. The first step to fixing this is the assessment on the child’s mental state. “Effective treatment requires knowledge of the psychotic disorders, diagnostic criteria, symptoms, and longitudinal course, in addition to an understanding of the youngster’s developmental, social, educational, and psychological needs” (PSYCHOSIS IN CHILDHOOD AND ITS MANAGEMENT, 2002). After this assessment the next thing to do is to try and treat the child. “Adequate treatment requires a combination of pharmacotherapy and various psychosocial interventions that target the child’s specific difficulties” (PSYCHOSIS IN CHILDHOOD AND ITS MANAGEMENT, 2002). Pharmacotherapy is medical treatment by the means of using pharmaceutical drugs. This is a very effective way to solve this disorder because it helps the children cope with it. “Interventions targeted at improving family functioning, problem solving, communication skills, and relapse prevention have been shown to decrease relapse rates in adults” (PSYCHOSIS IN CHILDHOOD AND ITS MANAGEMENT, 2002). These interventions usually include both of the parents and the child. The first option with treatment and therapy should be at a stable and safe environment for the child such as his or her house, but if the condition of the child's psychosis is threatening others it should be done in a treatment facility or a hospital (PSYCHOSIS IN CHILDHOOD AND ITS MANAGEMENT,
