I really enjoyed this list because it made me feel like it was a wonderful thing to love yourself. A Speaker Apprehension Self-Appraisal Scale was provided in the chapter, and we had to circle how confident we would be during certain situations. This scale was helpful, but I noticed that I felt anxious for most of my responses. The author mentions how public speaking is very different from communication. When I am presenting, the audience is observing, which can make it more frightening.
In addition, I became aware of a few improvements I can make to my speeches. First, I will try to be enthusiastic even when I do not care about the topic or am angry. Second, incorporating my own experiences can be very helpful towards building credibility. I do not have to rely on statistics. Finally, it is a good idea to in cooperate humorous or interesting information or stories into your speech.
The constructive feedback that was given by the instructor after grading, pointed out how I needed to grab the readers’ attention by being firm without being conversational, stating opinions as if they were facts, avoiding paragraphs in the first person, and eliminating paragraphs that had weak word
The feedback was super effective and I was able to add information and finesse to my essay that I had never even thought of using before. I took the feedback seriously and took all thoughts from my reviewer into consideration and used them to better my essay. The only regret that I have is not getting more peer revisers. In the writing workshop, I participated as just a class mate as my essay was not being reviewed and I was not a facilitator. I treated the writing workshop as a peer review for myself as I took peoples thoughts and suggestions into consideration and applied it to my own
Giving a speech whether being for the public or not, offers personal, professional, and public benefits for the individual. The individual might find it easier to obtain a profession, build better relationships amongst peers, or even propel social movements by carefully constructing and delivering a well thought out speech. A speech needs to be excellent in order to do such things; it needs to have a clear concise thesis, a preview statement, a great organizational pattern, supporting material, memory, delivery and good representation of oneself. Thus, during the process of constructing and delivering a speech, one must have those aspects. This will ensure the speaker will deliver a powerful and moving speech.
In the twenty-forth chapter of A Pocket Guide to Public Speaking, the authors O’Hair, D., Rubenstein, H. & Stewart, R. write about constructing a persuasive speech; more specifically, the nature of your claims, convincing evidence, warrants, and addressing the other sides. The authors write about other topics in this chapter but I will be covering the topics mentioned above. “In a persuasive speech, you can construct arguments based on three different kinds of claims: of fact, of value, and of policy. Your speech may contain only one type of claim or, often, consist of several arguments addressing different kinds of claims.” (p. 175)
2.Public speaking is not an easy task for many people. No matter how many times one rehearses their speech for public speaking, on many occasions people fail. One of the difficult aspects when it comes down to public speaking is the lack of confidence. The lack of confidence can lead many people to get nervous and make many mistakes when public speaking. Another mistake that people often make when it comes to public speaking is not dressed appropriate.
Eleonora Hasani Comm 145 Online “Just Bag it” Speech Self-Evaluation 1. I gained my audience’s attention through an ironic joke. By asking my audience if they hated when people answered their own questions, and then proceeded to answer my own question saying I hated it, I got them interested in what else I had to say. 2. I feel like I introduced by topic clearly by stating in my introduction paragraph that I wanted to give the audience a “glimpse of my life” and then followed it with my thesis that included the three items I was going to talk about. 3.
My self-reflection on taking Advanced Public Speaking with Professor Ben Walker for the fall semester of 2015. I enjoyed having all the assignment details in advance, the new variety of speeches, and how practice paid off. I really liked having all the assignments giving to me on the first day of class. It was extremely nice being able to write down the topic selection and speaking dates in advanced. It made planning and writing the speeches easier.
My biggest need is just the need to be better prepared and second to be more organized. Practice and opportunities to speak in front of a group will help to continue to develop speaking skills. During interviews, I dislike questions about how I feel or a time when I reacted a certain way. Just like in a speech situation I feel everything is moving too fast and I need to remember to slow down, take a breath and remember I’ll be fine.
Being confident shows your audience you are comfortable talking about your topic and that you are well informed on what you are specking of. Another thing that I can improve on is relaxing, for example, to not be so nervous. If I can think two steps ahead before I speak it would prepare me for what I am about to say which will allow my words to flow out smoothly and correctly. I plan on improving these skills by practicing more speeches in front of people and doing some relaxation exercises before my speech. I believe by implementing more speeches and doing some of the exercises, it will have me more relaxed, keep my mind focused and boost up my confidence so that I may present my speech flawlessly for an A plus grade.
Informative Speech Self Evaluation 1.What did you do well in your informative presentation? Be specific. Use examples from your speech. I have learned several things that I need to improve for upcoming speeches. I made many mistakes in my previous speech.
Rationale Written task: Britt Wesseling I have chosen a ted talk as my text type, because I think this is a great opportunity to advice people on how to be a great public speaker. The ted talk shows several techniques on how you can be a good public speaker. Being a good public speaker is having the ability to persuade and influence your audience in order to send your message. Great leaders are one of the best examples, because their goal is of course to inspire and activate the listeners.
By using speech and language effectively, and being able to describe or explain something in a way that influences and enables others to benefit from what is said form a solid foundation for becoming an excellent and competent public speaker. The speaker uses three common speeches to convey his messages to his audience clearly and successfully. 1.6.1.
