The book Comfort by Joyce Moyer Hostetter is the sequel to the book Blue, where 13 year old Ann Fay catches polio after her dad goes off to fight in World War 2. Her little brother also catches polio, but that is fatal. She goes to a hospital, in Hickory, North Carolina, and meets Imogene, a African American girl with polio too. Imogene helps Ann Fay get through the pain, and they become good friends. Comfort picks up right where Blue left off, where Ann Fay is home from the hospital and Ann Fay’s daddy is home from the war.
Each cat’s relevance to the story are different but the result of the story is similar. Pitty Sing was mentioned only in the beginning and near the end of the story. Pluto played a huge role through half of the story before his owner killed him. Pitty Sing was talked about why he was going on the trip, in the beginning, because he was important to the grandmother. The next and last time Pitty Sing was relevant to the story was a key part, near the end, when he caused the car to flip over.

In Vickey Delany’s novel, Blue Water Hues, the character named Ashley Grant decided to leave her life in Canada, starting a new one in the Caribbean. Tragic murders have occurred within this island ever since she arrived, causing a deep sense of trauma and depression of which is bottled up and hidden away from her family and friends. The author illustrates the different emotions she experiences in which Ashley Grant bottles up and hides from her friends and family. With that being said, the story develops a sense of the inevitability of the deaths of each and one of her loved ones, which causes Ashley Grant to undergo trauma and apprehension of the tragic future. I personally relate to this story with past experiences of my own, because the

Raymie Clarke, the protagonist, was going to compete in the Miss Florida Tire competition because her dad ran away with a dental hygienist and this was the only way to get him back home. After Louisiana’s meltdown, her grandmother came up with a plan to rescue Louisiana’s cat. Although when they were executing the plan, instead of finding Louisiana’s feline, Archie, they find a dog named Bunny. Looking at this book was difficult for me. The illustrations were very bright and eye-catching, though less realistic than those in Why Are You So Sad because the main character is a dragon named Spark. Spark is a young dragon who loves to play tail-ball with his mum and dad and baby sister, Flame. Both dragons become very sad when mum and dad start fighting all of the time, and when they are injured, they go to live with Serena, a foster dragon. I was never officially put into the system or foster care, however I relate to Spark and Flame because when my parents hurt me, I found solace in the arms of another caring mother-figure.
Characterization Round Character Round characters are characters that are well-developed and act like real people. Amir was one of these characters. Amir started out as a privileged boy who could not live up to his father’s expectations. He was jealous of Hassan and, eventually, sacrifices him to earn Baba’s favor; however, this action brings him guilt. The story shows Amir trying to redeem himself from his childish and cowardly acts of the past as he becomes more selfless and braver.
