Puglia Doing The Right Thing Have you ever experienced and ethical dilemma when you need to decide between right and wrong? In my lifetime, I have experienced many ethical dilemmas that I know not only had affected other people. Also, I know that sometimes there are some ethical dilemmas harder to resolve right away, but others are easier to make decisions on the spot. I believe it is important to understand why doing the right thing can lead people to have more value and take the correct decisions. What were the benefits and drawbacks of my two options? The benefit that I could take of keeping the money is using that extra cash for any personal purpose, but I will be losing my values as a person like not being honest with the costumer and fooling myself. Values helps shape the person you are. We usually behave in a way that reflects them. Values also determine what is important to us and whether we should pursue things or not. I also will be breaking the code of ethics from the company and spent time reading those ethical principles and guidelines for dealing with customers. Even though I know the code of ethics of the company I still can choose to take advantage of this costumer. In addition, this costumer perhaps will notice later on and come back to the store and describes me as a thief because knowing that the costumer gave me more money I decided to keep it, and it would get me in trouble or even worse get fired. I took the correct decision by giving the money back to the costumer. What made me do the right thing? It was that for me is more important my values than the costumer’s
