Thorn bushes and barbed-wire fences, log bridges and hills are major barriers for her. The cornfield she must cross from her initial path to a wagon road is a maze, haunted to her nearsightedness by a ghost that turns out to be a scarecrow. In particular, Thomas befriends Chuck, Alby, Minho, and Newt.
The swamp was icky and gross with green water. With moss on the trees, and the zombies were covered with moss. They made it out of the swamp with ease and on to the last phase to get to the boss. The phase had 6 teleporting hellhounds and a maze. They noticed that a lot of human bones in the maze but not in the room with the hellhounds.

The book explores different psychological stages of the characters and help up understand how it is like to live with no memory and surrounded by people you do not know. The author, a young man also, has a particular interest in adventure and survival plots due to their excitement upon readers. The author came with the idea of writing a novel involving a crowd of teenagers trapped into an unbreakable Maze filled with hideous creatures while he was dreaming.
