Gothic Music The Gothic music is mainly alternative that is subdivided into modern, gothic and industrial music. The Gothic music is composed of Gothic rock, darkwave and the folk gothic. The alternative is the general term and has subdivisions such as the Punk, Gothic, Industrial and much more (Hodkinson, 2002). The main idea of this was to have music that is different from the rest, underground and not all that popular. In the Punk music, the old school punk music got depleted in the late 70's, but the Punk subculture moved forward and is still in existence. In the punk music, it was mainly composed of bands such as the Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, anti establishment themes and also Circle Jerks. In the late 70's it emerged to be a distinct entity away from the punk movement from which it grew to become a large force in the music industry. In the past, they used to be spooky punks and they have been in existence up to date. In the recent past, the Gothic music was called the death rock and the listeners to this music used to be called the death rockers mostly in the UK. The characteristics of Gothic music is that is of the Christian Death who were one of the first and were from the US and an example is "The Sisters of Mercy and Bauhaus." This type of music is composed of instruments such as the hard guitars which are typically known for the rock music. The Folk Gothic type of music also known as occult gothic often concentrates on the religious, European or even the occult history (Goodlad, 2007). This type of music is mostly folk, and some consider it tribal as it involves obscure instruments, violin, flute, acoustic guitar and much more that are tribal aligned.
