Purina Mills Farms "Research, the secret ingredient of greatness." Purina Mills is an animal feed company founded by William H. Danforth in St. Louis, Missouri in 1894. For many years, Purina has been a top producer of animal feed, treats, and litter. Some of its pet food brands include Purina Pro Plan, Purina Dog Chow, Friskies, Purina ONE, Purina Equine, and Purina Steak Maker. Purina Farms supplies food for animals from equine to rabbits to aim at one goal, "animals that have a greatness you can see at a glance". Purina Mills produces an abundance of feed annually for a wide range of livestock, dogs, cats, and rabbits. To have a more direct focus on a product, I chose the equine feed Purina produces. The reason I chose an equine feed is my heavy involvement with the equine industry and I wanted to research more about one of the top feed producers. Since Purina is a large-scale company, they are out produced by one company, Mars Inc. Mars Inc. is the producer of Pedigree, Cesar, and Royal Canin with global retail sales exceeding $13.6 billion. They have expanded production in countries like Russia and New Zealand, while launching several new lines in India and US. They have produced more new product releases than any other company in both cat and dog food. Mars Inc. makes the competition tough when their factories are located around the world. However, even with global sales outperformed by Mars Inc. they are number one in US for horse feed with the largest selection of livestock feed. The surrounding businesses help Purina excel in the industry by forcing them to constantly improve their research and create a better and healthier
