“We the people…” (“Declaration of Independence.”), Any American knows this first line from the United States Constitution that represents everything the American people stand for and is one of the most recognizable pieces of writing in the world from the American Revolution. The American Revolution helped end Puritan writing, strengthen our own political voice, and showed the American colonists how much of an impact writing has on the world. “In this verse is threatened the vengeance of God on the wicked unbelieving Israelites” that quote is from the literature Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God and is one of the most recognizable literature pieces from the 17th century American colonies. Sinners in the hands of an Angry God is a Puritan writing. The Puritans believed in Puritism and believed that God is the everlasting savior that can do no wrong and we as humans are eternal sinners. Belief that few could truly reach heaven, and the rest were doomed to damnation made their lives a struggle with religious anxiety. The followers of Puritism did however know that the pen is mightier than the sword and wrote many stories of fiction, non-fiction, and autobiographies centered around self-reflection of oneself. Further into the stories there was much symbolism hidden in every sentence as the Puritans believed everything was a sign for God, for example if you got a papercut, God wants you to stop reading that book. The lifestyle that the Puritans lived affected their lives along with others around them, since many spoke out their full mind when someone was not acting how a Puritan would. Puritanism was a very common practice because of its ability to influence other and so both the poor, educated, and the average farmer were all normally was influenced by
