Case History Background Information Sara is a 25-year-old college graduate from an average family she was very active athletically in high school yet could never seem to control her weight especially in her upper torso. Sara seemed to have an average high school lifestyle with ample friends, and above average grades, however she only had one boyfriend throughout high school and that was a very brief relationship. Sara's friends would describe her as bright, intelligent, attractive, and having a great sense of humor accordingly, everyone enjoyed spending time with her. This excessive release of cortisol can keep the body in a state of hyperactive awareness, as it believes that there is something going on that is overtaxing the individual's resources to deal with the situation there for the body is staying in a heightened state of awareness. Individuals with Cushing's disease tend to carry excessive weight especially in the upper body, face, and abdomen which is often stress in itself especially being a young person where you are judged by your appearance and this particular weight gain is very upsetting. Some other symptoms of Cushing's disease include fatigue, anxiety, depression, and muscle fatigue according to Rothman (2014). Feeling fatigued for no apparent reason, having muscle fatigue that seem to be like flu symptoms, and anxiety can really add stress to an already stressful situation as they leave a person feeling more and more helpless with every symptom that
