People face many obstacles in life, but with courage one can overcome these hardships. Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines courage as mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty. Even though this is an excellent description of courage, one might ask where or who shows these qualities in the real world. Examples of courage can be found in the Bible, the military, and in first responders.
The Bible is full of courageous people. David shows courage whenever it is necessary. The most well-known instance is when David decides to fight Goliath. As a boy, David was required to exert more courage than most people will ever show. 1 Samuel 17:4-7 says “A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp.

[c] His shield bearer went ahead of him.” David at a very young age had courage to stand up to this giant. Because of David’s courage he was able to keep the Israelites out of slavery. David showed more courage than any man in the Israelite army. Gideon, like David, showed great courage. God asked Gideon to face a giant army while only having an army a sixth of the size. Even Giedion had God on his side, it still took great courage to do a task like this especially with no military experience. Sadly, in America soldiers are often forgotten. Many brave women give up months and sometimes years away from their family to protect this nation and the people in it. It takes so much courage to leave your family for any amount of time, especially when their future depends on you.
