In the epic poem Beowulf, the heroic code persistently appears within the main character Beowulf. He is courageous, loyal, and is renowned, but what is the most important out of his three main characteristics? The most important is courage. Without courage, Beowulf would not have been able to face or defeat Grendel for the greater good of the people. The three main characteristics of the heroic code are courage, loyalty, and reputation. Courage is the most important element in the heroic code because a hero must do drastic and frightful tasks that need the courage to face.

Courage isn't something that is possessed without learning. Courage must be learned in order to fully understand what it means to be courageous. Heroes go through many hardships, battles, and lessons to fully understand what is means to be courageous. Courage is the ability to conquer and face something that scares someone. A person can’t just decide one day to fully face their fears. Courage is the most important because without courage, heroes could not face something that is bigger than himself. In Man of Steel, Superman is a hero who indeed sacrifices himself for a higher power greater than himself. He has the courage to fight a major spacecraft with dozens of enemies by himself. He is courageous and fought Zod to save the world and the people. He exemplifies major an enormous amount of courage battling the world’s greatest enemy. Bravery can be found in basic tasks every day. It doesn’t require doing drastic tasks. I exemplify courage whenever I talk to someone I am afraid of, ask a question in class, and even when I simply walk down in my scary chilling basement. Courage is the most important element of the heroic code because without courage, heroes and people would not be able to face the trails that scare
