Yesterday at 6:30 pm, her majesty Queen Victoria passed away, commemorating an end to the longest reign in British history and the Victorian era. Both her life and reign came to an end in the Osborne House, East Cowe, United Kingdom. Queen Victoria had suffered many strokes days before which later lead to her death. Being only 81 years of age, Queen Victoria was not expected to die so soon. However, months before her death, it was discovered that her health was failing. Queen Victoria will be greatly missed as it was said that she was a symbol of the British Empire. People were in awe as their wonderful, evolving queen had passed away. Streets had been swarming with people since the day word got out about Queen Victoria’s weak health. However, January 22, 1901 was different. Many members of the national and international press were huddled around the Osborne House, while people in the city were constantly checking bulletins, telegrams, and newspapers to find out further information about the shocking death of their queen. A young gentleman by the name of William Montgomery, says “I was lost! I didn’t know what to think or how to think! It came as such a shock to me as I did not know her time would come so soon. She will be greatly missed” about finding out the news about Queen Victoria’s death. Another young lady by the name of Elizabeth John, who was out on the streets at the time of the Queen’s death shares her reaction to the news by saying, “I was honestly expecting it once I heard about her bad health. However, I was so upset once hearing the confirmation that she was dead. Queen Victoria has done the empire justice, and was a great, humble leader”. A fellow gentlemen named Harry Grayson tells the Daily Victorian, “I was constantly keeping an eye for any information, I wanted to make sure it was all true. I could not believe this tragic time.
