Paul Laurence Dunbar is known as one of America’s early and most well-known African American writers. He not only has many published poems, but also short stories, essays, and novels as well. He began writing early in his life, and in 1889 was editor of the Dayton Tattler, a newspaper published by the famed Orville Wright who, with his brother, invented the airplane. Though the newspaper was short lived, for Dunbar to be in such a position as a young African American during this time was a clear sign of his intelligence and talent.
Buddy Holly: Pop Culture: Domestic Buddy Holly was referenced in Billy Joel’s song, “We Didn’t Start the Fire”. Holly was a singer and songwriter before he died in 1959. Buddy Holly was mentioned in Billy Joel’s song because of his tragic death in 1959; Joel did not want him to be forgotten. You can easily relate “Creep” by Radiohead to Holden Caulfield and his pessimistic attitude towards everything and everybody in the book. Wherever Holden goes, he constantly refers to people as “phonies”, without even speaking a word to them. He is very critical and hold high standards for not only other individuals, but of himself as well. His low self-esteem is quite apparent from all the negative comments he makes throughout the text. In my honest opinion, I think Holden puts others down as a way to make himself feel better about the bad in his own life.

It was released in 1939, and this song tells the story of a person who knows that they have a special place in someone's heart and how they make them feel special. This song was written during The Great Depression, a time of sorrow and poverty. So once Johnny Cash had found his little speck of Sunshine during this time. When Johnny says “You make me happy when skies are gray.” I would assume that was because, during The Great Depression, there was a storm called the dust bowl.

He depicted Afghanistan’s history using the life of Amir, a Pashtun boy from an upper class family in Kabul. When you are in love you naturally have the desire of wanting to do things, anything, for the other person to make them happy. And usually, you do. But, for some people, the perpetuity of having things done for them is not as appealing as it once was. And now you are feeling useless because the person you love does not want what you have to offer anymore.
All music has multiple functions. While music can preserve artistic value, it can also simultaneously tell a story, bring people together, historicize, heal, and rejuvenate. Most importantly, however, it sends a strong message and stimulates strong emotions to the listener. The song, “Where is the Love” by The Black Eyed Peas, performs all of these functions. The song symbolizes the sociological conflict theory.
