Many know about the sixteenth president Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln is known for the Gettysburg Address, the Emancipation Proclamation, and being the president who guided the United states threw the Civil War. But one point of Lincoln's life is rarely touched on, Lincoln's family. Lincoln's wife was Mary Ann Todd. After their marriage she gained the name Lincoln and lost the name Ann. Mary was raised by her confederate stepmother and blood related father until she moved away to live in Springfield. At the age of 23, Mary and Lincoln were married on November 4th 1842, at Mary's sister's house in Springfield. Lincoln and Mary's relationship was truly a story of the perseverance of love. Mary often burst into Lincoln's office unannounced to speak with him about family and politics. Together the Lincoln family had 4 sons but only two lived to see adulthood. Mary wholeheartedly supported the union despite her family's views. Many accused Mary of being a confederate spy and a traitor due to her birth as a confederate. Roberts first school in Springfield taught him next to nothing, meaning he could not enroll into Harvard, which is why he attended Phillips Exeter Academy.
