The case of Amanda Todd, a teen who subjected herself to self-harm, is a prime example of why we need to reduce bullying in the world, which in most cases end in criminal trials and worse, suicidal deaths. Amanda was convinced that she had friends that she could trust online. She believed that if she got closer to them, that wouldn’t betray her and they did just that. She showed herself online and someone took a picture that was used to blackmail her. This is a main example of cyber bullying. It caused Amanda to have severe anxiety and she had to switch schools. Apparently, someone took advantage of her by gaining her personal information and her picture to blackmail her. She didn’t talk to anyone or go anywhere and she often tried to swallow the medication she was on and took to drugs and alcohol. She also stated that she attended counseling, but I’m it sure that it was working for her. The friends that she did have no longer respected her and didn’t speak to her. She did everything, including eating lunch, alone. She lost all her friends because of what someone did to her online. The photo was sent out again and the former friends began calling her names, this would be the second time she switched schools. She felt this would be better for her anxiety and she would get picked on anymore although she still didn’t have friends at this new school. The verbal bullying started after the exposure but every school she switched to, she was talked about by others. Sometimes by people who didn’t even know her, she thought she was putting it all behind her. By moving and switching schools, she felt that she would be getting away from being bullied but the kids wouldn’t leave her alone. She even tried to take blame, even though she did nothing
