Cyberbullying is a major issue that affects a lot of students today. There are different ways it takes form, as well as different levels of intensity, but it is always wrong. Students today face more challenges than those we faced when we were in school because the bullying never stops, but something needs to be done. When a person thinks of bullying, they might think picking on someone at school by hitting them or making fun of them, but nowadays, it is so much more than that. Bullies are not always just at school, but can torment kids at home as well through cyberbullying. Since the age that kids start using technology have become younger and younger, the more likely it will be that the age of cyberbullying will also become younger and younger. What exactly is cyberbullying? Cyberbullying can include sending mean or hateful comments to another person electronically. It can also be posting on social media derogatory or untrue statements about another student. Essentially, cyberbullying is using technology, such as cell phones or the internet, to make someone else feel scared, sad, or mad, and usually is done over and over again, according to Common Sense Media. Not only is it writing a mean message to someone or posting rude comments and false statements about someone, but it could also be posting or sending embarrassing photos, or spreading rumors. According to Common Sense Media, the best way to be able to tell if someone is cyberbullying another student is to determine if it is intentional and repeated.
