Max Mrs.Johnson ELA 21 September 2023. Chasing Lincoln's Killer: Have you heard of Mary Surratt? She was married to John Surratt and had three children. She was a helper of Booth, who was the killer of Abraham Lincoln. She was somebody who owned a boarding house. She did not want to be a part of Booth's situation, but was forced anyway. She had no right to be hanged because she didn't know that Booth was a murderer or a killer. They all had to do with Booth’s plot, because some helped him without knowing, and some helped him on purpose. Mary Surratt did not deserve a death penalty because all she did was accidentally help Booth without knowing. Even though she committed a crime, she had no idea that Booth was a murderer. If Mary Surratt did nothing, then why did she get the death penalty anyway? What proof did Mary Surratt help Booth? Why did she deserve the death penalty? What proof shows that she deserves to be punished? Other people could view her hanging as a good thing. People may think that she was a bad person because she fell for his charm and was manipulated into doing things she didn't question.
